Volkswagen has revealed plans to replace the Tiguan Allspace in global markets with a new SUV called the Tayron, which will be launched in 2023. Among the markets where the car will be available, China is first in line.
At the 2024 Beijing Auto Show currently taking place in China, Volkswagen officially introduced the Tayron to the global market. The Volkswagen Tayron is essentially a stretched version of the latest-generation Tiguan, which debuted in 2023. In the Chinese market, the Tayron is known by its own name, the Volkswagen Tiguan L Pro.
Built on the familiar MQB Evo platform, the new Volkswagen has dimensions of 4,735 x 1,869 x 1,682 mm in length, width, and height, with a wheelbase of 2,791 mm. Compared to the new-generation Volkswagen Tiguan, the car is 197 mm longer, 17 mm wider, 43 mm taller, and has a 111 mm longer wheelbase. With these dimensions, the Volkswagen Tayron will be positioned in the D-segment SUV segment, competing with rivals such as the Skoda Kodiaq, Hyundai Santa Fe, and Kia Sorento.
The Volkswagen Tayron is a mid-size SUV.
On the outside, the Tayron follows the common design language of Volkswagen-branded SUVs worldwide. Like the new-generation Volkswagen Tiguan, the Tayron also has a relatively rounded appearance.
The Volkswagen Tayron comes with two exterior design packages: standard and R-Line. The differences between the two design packages lie mainly in the grille, rear bumper, and wheels. With the standard design package, the Volkswagen Tayron is equipped with a grille with horizontal slats and vertical air intakes at the two corners of the front end. Meanwhile, the R-Line package adds a glossy black mesh grille to the car.

Besides the grille, the R-Line version also sets itself apart with wheels up to 22 inches in diameter. These are complemented by other gloss black exterior details to emphasize its sporty character, such as wheel arch trims, window surrounds, mirror housings, roof, roof spoiler, and rear bumper.

Behind the second row of seats is a luggage compartment with a standard capacity of 471 liters. This can be increased to 1,696 liters by folding down the rear seats.
To ensure safety for users, Volkswagen has equipped the new Tayron with the IQ. Pilot intelligent driver assistance system.
