The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued a recall for 116,020 Mercedes-Benz GLE and GLS SUVs from model years 2019 to 2024. This includes high-performance AMG and ultra-luxury Maybach variants, which are at risk of overheating and potential fires due to a 48V grounding wire located beneath the front passenger seat. |
Specifically, this electrical wire may not have been properly secured during assembly, and its location beneath the passenger seat means that in certain circumstances, it can reach high temperatures, increasing the risk of a fire if it is not fixed in an appropriate position.
Mercedes-Benz has stated that a loose grounding wire will not be indicated on the dashboard, and all customers are advised to bring their vehicles to dealerships for a free repair. The German automaker has not reported any fires or incidents related to this issue, but 31 reports of this fault have been filed with Mercedes-Benz headquarters from August 2022 to November 2023.
In Vietnam, the Mercedes-Benz GLE and GLS are available through both authorized dealers and private importers. The GLE is offered in three versions, with prices starting from VND 4.669 billion to VND 5.749 billion. The GLS is available in one version, priced at VND 5.389 billion. The Mercedes-Maybach GLS 480 and GLS 600 are also available, priced at VND 8.799 billion and VND 12.119 billion, respectively. Most of these vehicles are imported from the United States.
