Despite predictions of a slowdown in electric vehicle sales due to increasing competition and a potential plateau in EV adoption, Hyundai has defied these expectations. According to their latest sales report for the first quarter of 2024 in the US, Hyundai’s electric vehicle sales in March soared, witnessing a 100% increase compared to March 2023. Moreover, for the first quarter of 2024, EV sales rose by an impressive 62% year-over-year.
As per Motor1, this remarkable growth can be attributed to the introduction of new electric vehicles like the Ioniq 6. In March alone, Hyundai sold 1,984 units of the Ioniq 6, bringing the total sales for the first quarter to 3,646 units—a staggering 1,542% increase compared to the same period in 2023.

The Ioniq 5, another electric offering from Hyundai, also witnessed positive growth, albeit not as prominent as the Ioniq 6. Hyundai sold 3,361 units of the Ioniq 5 in March, totaling 6,822 units for the first quarter of 2024.
The rest of Hyundai’s electric lineup, including the Palisade EV, Tucson EV, Tucson PHEV, and Kona EV, also contributed to the overall growth. Notably, the Palisade EV saw a 29% year-over-year increase in sales, with 25,255 units sold in the first quarter.
While Hyundai’s electric vehicle division experienced record-breaking growth, their overall sales for the first quarter of 2024 fell slightly short of expectations. Hyundai sold a total of 184,804 vehicles, representing a modest 0.2% increase compared to the first quarter of 2023.
