The Vietnamese automotive market has been rather sluggish so far this year due to the economic downturn. However, this has not stopped car manufacturers from introducing new models in the country.

In June, the domestic automotive market will welcome a series of new models. Let’s take a look at the cars that will be launched in Vietnam in June 2024 in the following article.

Hyundai Grand i10

At the end of May, Hyundai will officially introduce the new generation Accent in Vietnam. It is expected that in June, the upgraded Hyundai Grand i10 mid-life version will be released.

Currently, Hyundai Thanh Cong has not announced specific information about the new Grand i10 for the Vietnamese market. However, it is predicted that this A-class model will have a design similar to the Hyundai Grand i10 sold in the Indian market.

In the new version, the Hyundai Grand i10 has been upgraded in terms of exterior design, including the grille, front bumper, LED daytime running lights, alloy wheels, and taillights. Inside the car, the design remains unchanged but is now equipped with gray fabric seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, floor lighting, and metal door handles.

Additionally, the Hyundai Grand i10 in the Indian market also features new equipment such as automatic headlights, a Type C USB port, cruise control, electronic stability control, vehicle stability management, hill start assist, ISOFIX child seat anchors, and tire pressure monitoring.

The engine of the Hyundai Grand i10 in Vietnam is expected to remain the same as the previous version. Currently, the model is being offered with promotional interest rates of only 0% for 12 months or a 50% discount on registration fees to clear inventory and make way for the new version.

MG4 EV

The electric vehicle market in Vietnam is becoming more vibrant with the presence of new names. One of them is the MG4 EV. According to MG, the MG4 EV model will be officially launched in Vietnam on June 1, 2024.

It is unclear whether the MG4 EV in Vietnam will be imported from China or Thailand. The equipment of this model in Vietnam is also a mystery.

MG4 EV

In the Thai market, the MG4 EV features prominent equipment such as LED lights from front to back, 17-inch alloy wheels, leather-cloth seats, a 6-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.25-inch central touchscreen, a rotary shifter, an electronic parking brake, wireless phone charging, Type A/Type C USB ports, auto-dimming rearview mirrors, automatic climate control, PM2.5 air filtration, and rear air conditioning vents.

The MG4 EV in Thailand is equipped with an electric motor mounted on the rear axle, producing a maximum output of 170 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque. In addition, the 51 kWh battery allows the car to travel up to 425 km on a single charge, according to the NEDC standard. The car can use both slow AC 6.6 kW and fast DC 88 kW chargers. With fast charging, the time to increase the battery capacity from 10-80% is about 35 minutes.

Haval Jolion

According to the initial plan, the Haval Jolion was to be launched in Vietnam in late April 2024. However, the Haval brand later postponed the launch of this model to June 2024.

Haval Jolion

The Haval Jolion in Vietnam will be imported from Thailand and will have two versions: Pro and Ultra. The official price of the car has not been announced, but it is expected to start below VND 700 million.

It would not be surprising if the Haval Jolion in Vietnam had similar equipment to the model sold in the Thai market. Some notable features of this model include LED lights, power-folding/adjustable/auto-folding mirrors, 17-inch or 18-inch alloy wheels, and more.

Inside this B-segment SUV is a spacious interior thanks to its 2,700 mm wheelbase. The interior equipment is also quite abundant, with synthetic leather-wrapped seats/steering wheel, 6-way power-adjustable/ventilated front seats, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch central touchscreen, Apple CarPlay connectivity, a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, a 6-speaker audio system, a head-up display, wireless phone charging, and a PM2.5 air filtration system.

Under the hood of this model is a hybrid powertrain (HEV) consisting of a 1.5L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, an electric motor, and an automatic transmission. This powertrain produces a combined output of 186 horsepower and 375 Nm of torque. The Haval Jolion’s fuel consumption is 23.8 km/l (approximately 4.2 l/100 km).

6 BYD Models

In early May 2024, BYD lost its large distribution unit, NEH, which is owned by Tasco Auto. However, BYD representatives affirmed that they would continue with their plan to enter the Vietnamese market in June this year with 6 models, including the Atto 3, Seal, Dolphin, Han, Tang, and Song. Among them, the BYD Atto 3, Seal, and Dolphin are pure electric vehicles. The other three models, Han, Tang, and Song, are available in both pure electric and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) versions.

Of the six models mentioned above, the most notable is perhaps the BYD Atto 3, Seal, and Dolphin trio. Currently, all three of these electric cars are officially sold in the Thai market and have high sales volumes.

In the Thai market, the BYD Atto 3 is equipped with an electric motor mounted on the front axle, producing a maximum output of 204 horsepower and 310 Nm of torque. This motor is combined with a BYD lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery with a capacity of 50.25 kWh or 60.48 kWh. The range of these two batteries is 410 km and 480 km, respectively, according to the NEDC test cycle. The 50.25 kWh battery supports slow AC 7 kW or fast DC 70 kW charging. Meanwhile, the 60.48 kWh battery can use slow 7 kW or fast 88 kW charging.

On the other hand, the BYD Dolphin will vary its electric motor and battery depending on the version. The lower-end version uses a 94 horsepower/180 Nm motor and a 44.9 kWh LFP battery. This version has a range of 410 km according to the NEDC test cycle. This type of battery is compatible with both slow AC 7 kW and fast DC 60 kW charging.

The high-end version of the BYD Dolphin is equipped with a 204 horsepower/310 Nm electric motor and a 60.48 kWh LFP battery. The range of this version is 490 km on a single charge. This version supports both slow AC 7 kWh and fast DC 80 kW charging.

Regarding the BYD Seal, the performance specifications vary depending on the version. The Dynamic RWD version uses a single rear-mounted electric motor with a maximum output of 204 horsepower and 310 Nm of torque. This motor is paired with a 61.44 kWh LFP battery, providing a range of 510 km according to the NEDC test cycle. The car can use slow AC or fast DC 110 kW charging.

BYD Seal

The BYD Seal Premium RWD version features a rear-mounted electric motor that produces 313 horsepower and 360 Nm of torque. This version uses an 82.56 kWh BYD Blade battery, resulting in a range of 650 km. The car can use slow AC or fast DC 150 kW charging.

On the other hand, the BYD Seal AWD Performance model is equipped with two electric motors on both axles, generating a combined output of 530 horsepower and 670 Nm of torque. Although it uses the same battery as the Premium RWD version, the AWD Performance version has a range of only 580 km. However, it offers all-wheel drive instead of rear-wheel drive.

3 Aion Models

Similar to BYD, the Aion brand of the GAC Group from China also plans to enter the Vietnamese market in June 2024. Aion intends to introduce three models in Vietnam, including the Y Plus, ES, and Hyper HT.

The Aion Y Plus is positioned in the C-segment electric SUV category, similar to the VinFast VF7. This model is equipped with a single front-mounted electric motor with a maximum output of 204 horsepower and 225 Nm of torque. In addition, it offers two types of LFP batteries with capacities of 63.2 kWh and 68.3 kWh. These two batteries provide a range of 490 km and 550 km, respectively, according to the NEDC test cycle.

Aion Y Plus

On the other hand, the Aion ES is a D-segment sedan, competing in the same segment as the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord. This model uses two types of electric motors with outputs of 201 horsepower/225 Nm and 224 horsepower/350 Nm, respectively. Additionally, it offers two battery options with capacities of 58 kWh and 68 kWh. These batteries provide a range of 510 km and 610 km, respectively.

Aion ES

Finally, the Aion Hyper HT is positioned as a more premium offering compared to the other two models of the same brand. As a mid-size SUV, the Aion Hyper HT is larger than the VinFast VF8 but smaller than the VF9. This model features two types of electric motors with outputs of 245 horsepower/355 Nm and 340 horsepower/430 Nm, respectively. In addition, it offers four battery options: LFP 70 kWh, LFP 72.7 kWh, NMC 80 kWh, and NMC 93 kWh. The range corresponding to these four batteries is 550 km, 600 km, 670 km, and 770 km, respectively.
