Some of the SUVs that experienced positive growth in April include the Hyundai Santa Fe, Toyota Fortuner, and Isuzu MU-X. However, none of these vehicles could surpass the Ford Everest, which maintained its leading position in the D-segment SUV market.

Ford Everest: 766 units sold
In April 2024, Ford sold 766 units of the Everest to Vietnamese customers, a 14.7% decrease compared to the previous month. However, this American model maintained its top position in the D-segment SUV market in terms of sales. Additionally, the Ford Everest continues to rank among the top 10 best-selling vehicles in the overall market.

For May 2024, the Ford Everest is offering a 2-year extended warranty and a 2-year free periodic maintenance package worth VND 25 million. Compared to the incentives offered by competitors like Hyundai Santa Fe, the promotion for the American model is relatively modest.
The Ford Everest currently has a total of 6 versions, with prices ranging from VND 1,099 billion to VND 1,545 billion. While not the most affordable option, this vehicle is popular for its modern and eye-catching design, spacious 7-seat interior, and superior comfort and safety features.
Under the hood, the Ford Everest offers two diesel engine options with a 2.0L displacement. The single-turbocharged engine delivers a maximum output of 170 horsepower and 405 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The twin-turbocharged engine, on the other hand, generates 210 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque. This engine is coupled with a 10-speed automatic transmission and is exclusively available for the high-end trims.

April 2024 witnessed a strong growth for the Hyundai Santa Fe, with sales reaching 530 units. Compared to March 2024, the sales of this model increased by 105%, the highest growth rate in the D-segment SUV market. Unfortunately, the Hyundai Santa Fe remains in second place in the segment, trailing behind the Ford Everest in terms of sales.

The impressive performance can be attributed to the incentive program worth up to VND 100 million offered for the Hyundai Santa Fe in April 2024. Continuing into May, the Hyundai model is still being promoted with discounts ranging from VND 70 million to VND 100 million, depending on the version. This incentive program is expected to sustain the growth momentum for the Hyundai Santa Fe.
In Vietnam, the Hyundai Santa Fe is available in 5 versions, with prices ranging from VND 1,029 billion to VND 1,369 billion. Additionally, customers have a choice of 3 different engines.
The first option is the Smartstream Theta III 2.5L gasoline engine, delivering a maximum output of 180 horsepower and 232 Nm of torque, paired with a Shiftronic 6-speed automatic transmission. The second option is the Smartstream D2.2 diesel engine, producing 202 horsepower and 440 Nm of torque, coupled with an 8-speed wet dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Lastly, there is a hybrid powertrain that combines a 1.6L SmartStream turbocharged gasoline engine with an electric motor. The gasoline engine generates 180 horsepower and 265 Nm of torque, while the electric motor adds 44.2 kW, equivalent to nearly 60 horsepower. This setup is complemented by a 1.49 kWh battery (270 V, 5.5 Ah) and a 6-speed automatic transmission.

The Toyota Fortuner maintained its third position in the D-segment SUV market in terms of sales for the month of April 2024, with 267 units sold. This represents a growth rate of 26.5% compared to the previous month.

Since the beginning of 2024, the Toyota Fortuner has undergone price adjustments and version updates. As a result, the vehicle is now offered in 5 versions, with prices ranging from VND 1,055 billion to VND 1,35 billion. Additionally, the Toyota Fortuner has been enhanced with features such as a 9-inch touchscreen display and wireless connectivity with smartphones via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Similar to the Hyundai Santa Fe, the Toyota Fortuner also offers a choice of 3 different engines, including the 2.4L diesel engine, the 2.8L diesel engine, and the 2.7L gasoline engine. These engines deliver power outputs of 147 horsepower/400 Nm, 201 horsepower/500 Nm, and 164 horsepower/245 Nm, respectively. The engines are paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission and are available with either rear-wheel drive or 4WD.

The Mazda CX-8 is the only model in the D-segment SUV market that maintained its sales performance from the previous month, selling 202 units in April 2024. This places the Mazda CX-8 in fourth place in the segment.

The Mazda CX-8 currently offers the most attractive pricing in the D-segment SUV market, with prices ranging from VND 949 million to VND 1,129 billion. Additionally, the model stands out for its eye-catching design, spacious interior, and comprehensive comfort and safety features.
One drawback of the Mazda CX-8 is that it only offers one engine option, which is the 2.5L Skyactiv-G gasoline engine that produces a maximum output of 188 horsepower and 252 Nm of torque. This engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission and is available with either front-wheel drive or AWD, depending on the version.

Similar to some of its competitors, the Kia Sorento also experienced positive growth in April 2024. With 87 units sold, the model achieved a 77.5% increase in sales compared to the previous month. Its ranking within the segment remains unchanged from March 2024.

In April 2024, the Kia Sorento benefited from incentives of up to VND 120 million for the two hybrid (HEV) versions. With this promotion, the starting price of the Kia Sorento Hybrid dropped to just over VND 1,029 billion, making it significantly more affordable than the Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid. This could have been a contributing factor to the sales growth of the Kia model.
In Vietnam, the Kia Sorento is available in 12 versions, with prices ranging from VND 964 million to VND 1,499 billion. With the introduction of the Ford Everest Platinum in April 2024, the Kia Sorento is no longer the most expensive model in the D-segment SUV market.
Not only does the Kia Sorento offer a wide range of versions, but it also provides a choice of 4 different engines. The first is the Smartstream 2.5 MPI gasoline engine, which produces a maximum output of 177 horsepower and 232 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The Smartstream D2.2 diesel engine, on the other hand, delivers 198 horsepower and 440 Nm of torque, coupled with an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission.
The hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains both utilize a 1.6L turbocharged gasoline engine with an electric motor. The gasoline engine generates 178 horsepower and 265 Nm of torque, while the electric motor adds either 60 horsepower and 264 Nm of torque (hybrid) or 90 horsepower and 304 Nm of torque (plug-in hybrid). These setups are complemented by a 6-speed automatic transmission.

In contrast to its performance in March 2024, the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport experienced a decline in sales in April, with a 37.5% decrease to only 25 units sold. With these sales figures, the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport once again finds itself among the top 10 worst-selling vehicles in the market.

For May 2024, Mitsubishi is offering a promotion that covers 100% of the registration fee, 2 years of free physical damage insurance, and a financing support package (MMV Auto Finance) for the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport. This can result in savings of between VND 113 million and VND 136 million during the registration process. The 4×2 AT version will also receive free maintenance for 2 years or 40,000 km, while the 4×4 AT version is eligible for free maintenance for 3 years or 60,000 km.
However, at dealerships, the 2023 VIN Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is being offered with even more attractive discounts of up to VND 300 million for the high-end 4×4 AT version, bringing the price down to VND 1,075 billion. The 4×2 AT version can be found for less than VND 900 million at dealerships.
The Mitsubishi Pajero Sport available in Vietnam is equipped with a 2.4L Mivec diesel engine that produces a maximum output of 178 horsepower and 430 Nm of torque. The vehicle is offered with either rear-wheel drive or 4WD, along with a rear differential lock.

The Isuzu MU-X is one of the D-segment SUVs that experienced sales growth in April 2024, with 20 units sold, representing a 100% increase. However, due to its low sales volume, the Isuzu MU-X remains at the bottom of the segment and is among the top 10 worst-selling vehicles in the market.

One of the weaknesses of the Isuzu MU-X is its less appealing design and relatively basic features. The vehicle is powered by a 1.9L 4-cylinder diesel engine that produces a maximum output of 150 horsepower at 3,600 rpm and 350 Nm of torque at 1,800-2,600 rpm. In the high-end version, the engine is paired with a 4WD system and a 6-speed automatic transmission. The other versions come with rear-wheel drive.
The Isuzu MU-X is currently priced between VND 911 million and VND 1,25 billion.
