In recent months, the Subaru Forester has been on a continuous promotional campaign by the manufacturer, offering discounts of up to 250 million VND to clear out their 2023 production year inventory (2023 VIN). After successfully clearing their stock, Subaru has now reduced the incentives for this C-segment SUV.
From now until the end of June 30, 2024, the 2024 VIN Subaru Forester will offer discounts of 70 million VND for the standard i-L trim, 130 million VND for the i-L EyeSight, and 160 million VND for the i-S EyeSight. For the i-L and i-L EyeSight trims, the company is offering partial registration fee support, free license plate registration, free road insurance, and one year of premium physical insurance. The i-S EyeSight trim comes with 100% registration fee support.

Official promotion program for the Subaru Forester in June 2024
It’s not just the Subaru Forester that has seen a reduction in incentives for June 2024 after clearing 2023 VIN stock. Its rival in the same segment, the Honda CR-V, is also offering reduced incentives this month. The Honda CR-V now provides 50% registration fee support for the G and L 2WD trims, valued at 55-58 million VND.
The Subaru Forester currently has a price range of 969 million to 1.199 billion VND. In the C-segment SUV market in Vietnam, the Subaru Forester is not the most attractively priced option. Competitors such as the Mazda CX-5, Hyundai Tucson, and Ford Territory all have lower prices than the Forester.
Price is a significant disadvantage for the Subaru Forester in the Vietnamese market. Additionally, the design of the vehicle is not particularly eye-catching or in line with the preferences of Vietnamese consumers. To increase the appeal of their best-selling model, Subaru has been consistently offering promotional campaigns in recent months.
The Subaru Forester was first introduced in the Vietnamese market in 2018 as a fully imported model from Japan. In 2019, the vehicle switched to being fully imported from Thailand to take advantage of the 0% import tax. This change resulted in a significant reduction in the selling price of the C-segment SUV.
However, from 2025, the Forester, along with other Subaru models in Vietnam, will be imported directly from Japan. This change is due to the closure of Subaru’s Thai factory on December 30, 2024.
The shift back to importing from Japan is expected to cause a significant increase in the price of Subaru vehicles in Vietnam. This is because the cars will now be subject to import taxes ranging from 50% to 70%, as opposed to the 0% tax when imported from Thailand.
