Although the market showed a slight growth trend in May 2024, the urban compact SUV segment still witnessed a general decline. Only 3 out of 7 products recorded improved sales compared to the previous month.

Sales of the B-segment SUV in May 2024Â (unit: vehicles).
The most notable performance was the breakthrough of the Toyota Corolla Cross, with sales growth of up to 71 times compared to April, reaching 996 units and reclaiming the top position after several dull months. This was the result of the mid-life cycle upgrade of the Corolla Cross at the beginning of May, attracting customers with its new features.
The 2024 Toyota Corolla Cross discontinued the standard G version, offering only the gasoline (V) and hybrid (HEV) versions. However, the price was reduced by 40-50 million VND compared to the previous generation, now at 820 million and 905 million VND, respectively.
Although no longer in the top position, the Toyota Yaris Cross continues to prove its appeal. Sales in May reached 902 units, a slight increase of 2.3%, securing the second rank. Vietnamese customers still favored the gasoline version, with only 121 units of the Toyota Yaris Cross Hybrid sold during the month.
The gasoline version of the Toyota Yaris Cross is priced at 650 million VND, while the hybrid version is 765 million VND.
Ranking third was the Mitsubishi Xforce, with 802 units sold, four less than in April. Notably, after a decline in April 2024, many dealerships offered discounts on this model in May, ranging from 20 to 30 million VND depending on the version and showroom, but sales did not improve. For the first five months of 2024, the Mitsubishi Xforce maintained the highest cumulative sales in the B-segment SUV category, reaching 2,942 units.
The Mitsubishi Xforce is available in four versions, but only three have been priced so far (from 620 to 699 million VND). The Ultimate high-end version is expected to arrive at dealerships this June.
Following the Mitsubishi Xforce in fourth place was not the Hyundai Creta but the Kia Seltos. This model, which recently received an upgrade in April, was priced according to user feedback as high (from 599 to 799 million VND). Still, sales continued to climb in May. This somewhat demonstrated the appeal of the new upgrades of this Korean car.
The 2024 Kia Seltos was first equipped with the ADAS active safety technology package, but it only appeared in the highest-end version.
The Hyundai Creta dropped to fifth place in May, with a sales result of a 16.6% decline. This model once held the top position in the urban compact SUV segment but gradually lost its appeal to newer products, and sales decreased despite frequent deep discounts at dealerships.
The Hyundai Creta has a starting price of 599 million VND, with the highest-end version reaching 699 million VND.
The sixth and seventh positions belonged to the Mazda CX-3 and CX-30, respectively. The CX-3 recorded a sales growth of 22.6%, reaching 215 units. Conversely, the Mazda CX-30 sales decreased by 34% compared to April, selling only 116 units.
In May 2024, the Mazda CX-3 was offered a discount almost equivalent to 50% of the registration fee, while the CX-30 was sold at the listed price. This could be a factor contributing to the contrasting performance of the two models.
The Mazda CX-3 belongs to the B-segment SUV category.
The last ranking surprisingly went to the Honda HR-V, with the most significant sales decline in the B-segment SUV category, up to 56.9%. Despite the company offering a 50% registration fee and one-year hull insurance, only 107 units of this Honda model were sold.
The Honda HR-V currently has the highest price in the B-segment SUV category, ranging from 699 to 871 million VND.
