As previously reported, the authorized distributor of Nissan vehicles in Vietnam (VAD) has stated that there are currently no plans to sell the 2024 model of the Nissan Kicks. The Nissan Kicks vehicles currently available at dealerships were manufactured in 2023 (VIN number 2023)

To clear out inventory, dealerships are still actively promoting this B-segment SUV with discounts. As a result, some dealerships are offering discounts of up to 230 million VND on the Nissan Kicks. In Vietnam, the Nissan Kicks is only available in one version, the V, with a listed price of 858 million VND. With the dealership discount, the car’s price drops to just 628 million VND.

In July 2024, Nissan is running a promotion offering 150% of the registration fee for three of its models, including the Kicks. The cash equivalent value for this B-segment SUV ranges from 129 to 154 million VND, depending on the province or city of registration. However, to clear out remaining inventory, dealerships have added additional discounts on the Nissan Kicks.

Thus, the Nissan Kicks is one of the B-segment SUVs with the deepest discounts in the Vietnamese market. The Volkswagen T-Cross is another B-segment SUV with higher discounts than the Nissan Kicks. This SUV from the German brand is being offered with discounts of up to 220 to 300 million VND by dealerships, bringing the price down to 879 million VND for the Elegance trim and 999 million VND for the Luxury trim.

However, even after the discount, the Nissan Kicks is not the most affordable B-segment SUV in Vietnam. Compared to competitors like the MG ZS or the Mazda CX-3, this model still carries a higher price tag.

On the upside, the Nissan Kicks boasts a fuel-efficient powertrain. It is one of the few B-segment SUVs in Vietnam to feature a hybrid powertrain, alongside the Toyota Yaris Cross and Corolla Cross duos. However, unlike the Toyota Yaris Cross, the Nissan model is equipped with a series hybrid powertrain rather than a parallel one. In fact, the Nissan Kicks is recognized as an electric car in the Indonesian market.

The Nissan Kicks is a rare SUV that uses a series hybrid powertrain.

Specifically, the Nissan Kicks employs e-Power technology, which includes an electric motor, lithium-ion battery, inverter, gasoline engine, and generator. The electric motor delivers a maximum output of 136 horsepower and 280 Nm of torque. The gasoline engine is a 3-cylinder, DOHC, 12-valve unit with a displacement of 1.2 liters, producing a maximum output of 82 horsepower and 103 Nm of torque.

The gasoline engine in the Nissan Kicks does not drive the vehicle but functions as a generator to charge the battery. Meanwhile, the electric motor is responsible for propulsion. This powertrain enables the car to operate like an electric vehicle but without the need for plug-in charging, and it only consumes 2.2 liters of gasoline per 100 kilometers in the city.

While the Nissan Kicks is fuel-efficient, its engine may raise concerns among Vietnamese consumers, particularly regarding the cost of replacement and repairs in case of battery failure. Additionally, the vehicle was initially launched with a high price range of 789 to 858 million VND, which may have negatively impacted its appeal to potential customers.
