Ford Everest: 830 units
June saw the continued dominance of the Ford Everest in the D-segment SUV market, as no other model came close to its sales figures. Ford sold 830 units of the Everest in Vietnam last month, a slight increase of 2.3%. For the first six months of the year, the Ford Everest also leads the segment with a total of 4,442 units sold.
Ford Everest
The Ford Everest is offered in Vietnam with six different trim levels, and its price ranges from VND 1.099 billion to VND 1.545 billion. Despite the relatively high price tag, the vehicle remains popular due to its attractive design, spacious 7-seat interior, and extensive convenience and safety features.
Under the hood, the Ford Everest is equipped with a 2.0L 4-cylinder diesel engine in two different states of tune. The first is a single-turbo unit that produces 170 horsepower and 405 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The second is a bi-turbo engine that generates 210 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque. This more powerful engine is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission and is exclusive to the higher-end trim levels.
Hyundai Santa Fe: 573 units
Similar to the previous month, the Hyundai Santa Fe maintained its second position in the D-segment SUV sales rankings. In June, the South Korean model sold 573 units, reflecting a growth of 15.5%. For the first half of the year, the Hyundai Santa Fe also held on to its second place, with a total of 2,119 units sold.
Hyundai Santa Fe
In mid-June 2024, the Hyundai Santa Fe received a price reduction, with the new price range set from VND 979 million to VND 1.269 billion. This change contributed to the improved sales performance in June.
The Hyundai Santa Fe is currently available in Vietnam with five trim levels and three engine options. The first is the Smartstream Theta III 2.5L gasoline engine, which delivers 180 horsepower and 232 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed Shiftronic automatic transmission. The second option is the Smartstream D2.2 diesel engine, producing 202 horsepower and 440 Nm of torque, coupled with an 8-speed wet dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Lastly, there is a hybrid powertrain that combines a 1.6L SmartStream turbocharged gasoline engine with an electric motor. The gasoline engine generates 180 horsepower and 265 Nm of torque, while the electric motor adds 44.2 kW, equivalent to nearly 60 horsepower. This setup is complemented by a 1.49 kWh battery (270 V, 5.5 Ah) and a 6-speed automatic transmission.
Toyota Fortuner: 332 units
Toyota Fortuner also experienced a successful month, with a 34.9% growth in sales to 332 units. This placed the Toyota model firmly in third place in the segment for both June 2024 and the first six months of the year.
Toyota Fortuner
The Toyota Fortuner received a minor upgrade earlier this year, and its price now ranges from VND 1.055 billion to VND 1.35 billion for five different trim levels. The upgraded version features a 9-inch touchscreen display and supports wireless connectivity with smartphones via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Toyota Fortuner buyers in Vietnam can choose from three engine options: the 2.4L diesel, 2.8L diesel, or 2.7L gasoline engine. The respective performance figures for these engines are 147 horsepower/400 Nm, 201 horsepower/500 Nm, and 164 horsepower/245 Nm. These engines are paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission and are available with either rear-wheel drive or 4WD.
Mazda CX-8: 209 units
June 2024 marked a positive sales growth for the Mazda CX-8, with 209 units sold, representing a 19.4% increase. This placed the model in fourth place in the segment.
Mazda CX-8
The Mazda CX-8 is currently offered in four trim levels, with prices ranging from VND 949 million to VND 1.129 billion. At this price point, the Mazda CX-8 is one of the most affordable options in the D-segment SUV category.
In addition to its competitive pricing, the Mazda CX-8 boasts an attractive design, spacious interior, and a comprehensive suite of convenience and safety features. However, unlike many of its rivals, the CX-8 is only available with a single engine option: the 2.5L Skyactiv-G gasoline engine that produces 188 horsepower and 252 Nm of torque. This engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission and either front-wheel drive or AWD, depending on the trim level.
Kia Sorento: 100 units
In June 2024, Kia sold 100 units of the Sorento in Vietnam, representing a 3.8% decrease. This made the Kia Sorento one of the three D-segment SUVs that experienced a decline in sales last month.
Kia Sorento
The Kia Sorento stands out with its wide range of trim levels, offering up to 12 different options, and its price varies from VND 964 million to VND 1.499 billion. Additionally, it provides the most engine choices in its class, with four different options.
The first is the Smartstream 2.5 MPI gasoline engine, which delivers 177 horsepower and 232 Nm of torque and is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The Smartstream D2.2 diesel engine, on the other hand, produces 198 horsepower and 440 Nm of torque and is mated to an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission.
The hybrid and plug-in hybrid systems both utilize a 1.6L turbocharged gasoline engine with an electric motor. The gasoline engine generates 178 horsepower and 265 Nm of torque, while the electric motor in the hybrid version adds 60 horsepower and 264 Nm of torque. In the plug-in hybrid variants, the electric motor produces 90 horsepower and 304 Nm of torque.

After experiencing the highest growth rate in sales among D-segment SUVs in May 2024, the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport witnessed a decline of 13% in June, with only 59 units sold.
Mitsubishi Pajero Sport
In July 2024, the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport continues to benefit from official promotions. The brand is offering a 100% discount on registration fees, valued at VND 113-136 million, along with two years of free physical damage insurance. The Diesel 4×4 AT version also comes with three years or 60,000 km of free maintenance, whichever comes first. Meanwhile, the Diesel 4×2 AT version is offered with two years or 40,000 km of free maintenance.
The Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is currently available in Vietnam with two trim levels, priced from VND 1.13 billion to VND 1.365 billion. It is equipped with a 2.4L MIVEC diesel engine that produces 178 horsepower and 430 Nm of torque. The model offers both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive options, along with a rear differential lock.
Isuzu MU-X: 18 units
The Isuzu MU-X had a better month compared to the previous one, with a 50% growth in sales to 18 units. However, with such modest sales figures, the MU-X remains at the bottom of the segment and is one of the slowest-selling cars in the Vietnamese market for both June 2024 and the first half of the year.
Isuzu MU-X
The Isuzu MU-X faces challenges due to its less appealing design and relatively modest features. It is powered by a 1.9L 4-cylinder diesel engine that produces 150 horsepower at 3,600 rpm and 350 Nm of torque between 1,800 and 2,600 rpm. In the highest trim level, the engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission and a 4WD system. The other trim levels come with rear-wheel drive.
