In less than a year of taking delivery of his Porsche 911 Dakar, a businessman from Haiphong city has already racked up an impressive 50,366 km on the odometer.

The high mileage is a result of the businessman’s two extensive cross-border trips in the car.

Just five days after taking delivery of the VND 16 billion ($676,000) sports car, the Haiphong businessman and his friends embarked on a 10,000-km journey from Vietnam to China and the Gobi Desert in three vehicles: a Porsche 911 Dakar 2023, a Toyota Land Cruiser LC300, and a Ford Ranger Raptor. The Porsche 911 Dakar, an off-road supercar, navigated through various terrains, including deserts, snowy roads, mountain trails, and even water crossings. This trip alone accounted for approximately 35,000 km on the car’s odometer.

The second trip, which took place in mid-June this year, saw the businessman return to China with the supercar to conquer a 10,407-km journey. During this exploration of China, he drove the Porsche 911 Dakar on highways and navigated challenging terrains such as vast grasslands and steep mountain roads with rough, gravelly surfaces.

This Porsche 911 Dakar has one of the most active travel schedules among its kind. On average, the businessman drives 4,579 km per month, or about 147 km per day.

The Haiphong businessman’s Porsche was brought to Vietnam in August 2023. It is the first official 911 Dakar in the country and one of only 2,500 units produced globally. With the serial number 1,904 out of 2,500, the car’s number also coincides with the owner’s birth date.

Some personalized touches have been added to the car, including a signature on the door sill, a roll cage, a roof rack, a bonnet-mounted light bar, and other off-road accessories.

The front and rear bumpers are inspired by the 911 Turbo S but have been modified with additional underbody protection and wheel arch flares made of metal.

The hood is made of carbon fiber-reinforced polymer, similar to the 911 GT3. The car sits on 19-inch front and 20-inch rear Dakar wheels wrapped in Pirelli Scorpion tires measuring 245/45 ZR19 and 295/40 ZR20, respectively.

The 911 Dakar is based on the standard 911 Carrera but has been upgraded for off-road capabilities. Porsche has adjusted the suspension, raising the ground clearance by 80 mm compared to regular 911 models, resulting in a substantial 200 mm of ground clearance—on par with a full-fledged SUV.

The Dakar version introduces two new driving modes: Rally and Off-road. The Rally mode is designed for rough and uneven surfaces, sending most of the torque to the rear wheels. Activating the Off-road High Level mode further increases the ground clearance by 30 mm, enhancing the car’s off-road performance and approach angles. This mode automatically deactivates when the car exceeds 170 km/h.

Under the hood, the Porsche 911 Dakar is powered by a 3.0L flat-six engine producing 473 horsepower and 570 Nm of torque, paired with an 8-speed PDK automatic transmission and an AWD system. This setup enables the car to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.4 seconds and reach a top speed of 240 km/h.

Standard equipment includes a four-wheel steering system and a multi-purpose engine mount, reducing the car’s weight by 7.3 kg. Other weight-saving measures include a fixed rear wing and thinner glass.
