The fourth-generation Porsche Cayenne will soon debut as an all-electric model, with the third generation of the luxury SUV continuing to offer petrol and hybrid powertrains even after 2030.
According to Motor1, automakers have witnessed a slowdown in electric vehicle sales, leading many to reconsider their future product plans. Porsche, through its CEO, Oliver Blume, has confirmed that the petrol-powered Cayenne SUV will live on. Porsche acknowledges that its electrification plans may have been overly ambitious.
The fourth-generation Porsche Cayenne, scheduled for a 2026 launch, will be electric. However, the third-generation model will continue to offer a petrol option alongside the new EV.
Porsche assures that the petrol-powered Cayenne will receive comprehensive updates, primarily focusing on enhancing the performance of its V8 engine while complying with Euro 7 emissions standards.
The Cayenne received a significant update this year, boasting improved aesthetics, revised instrumentation, and enhanced performance across the entire range. The V6 engine in the S variant has also been replaced with a twin-turbocharged V8.
Porsche maintains its goal of having over 80% of its sales come from electric vehicles by 2030. However, they note that this is “dependent on customer demand and the development of electric mobility in various regions of the world.”
The upcoming all-electric Cayenne, expected to launch in 2026, will be built on the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture, shared with the electric Macan and upcoming Audi models.
Porsche has commenced testing for the next-generation Cayenne, with prototypes already spotted undergoing road trials. The Cayenne EV is set to cover millions of global test miles before its official debut, according to Porsche.
