According to Automobilwoche magazine, Porsche is planning to transition its entire current lineup of gasoline-powered vehicles to electric. In the immediate future, the company will discontinue some gasoline models to optimize production.

In a recent interview with Reuters, Porsche executive board member Albrecht Reimold revealed that the company will soon halt production of the gasoline-powered variants of the Macan, Cayman, and 718 models globally after 2026.

In fact, the Macan already has an all-electric version that was introduced last year and is currently sold alongside the older gasoline-powered Macan. After discontinuing the gasoline version, Porsche will focus on the electric Macan to drive its sustainability plans.

Meanwhile, the gasoline-powered Porsche 718 is expected to be discontinued earlier, likely in 2025. The all-electric 718 will be introduced later this year and go on sale from late 2025.

According to plans, by mid-2025, Porsche will also stop producing the Cayman gasoline model to focus all its efforts on perfecting the electric version as a replacement.

According to experts, the discontinuation of multiple gasoline-powered models within the next two years will significantly impact Porsche’s sales. The German automaker will lose a large number of customers passionate about high-performance vehicles with traditional internal combustion engines.

On the other hand, pricing is also a significant challenge that makes electric vehicles less accessible to consumers at present. For instance, the all-electric Macan is priced $16,000 USD (406.8 million VND) higher than its gasoline counterpart.

Despite these challenges, Porsche remains committed to its goal of having half of its new vehicles sold in 2025 be electric. By 2030, more than 80% of new Porsche vehicles will be electrically powered.
