The 1955 Ferrari 410 Superamerica, once owned by Vietnam’s last emperor, Bao Dai, is an incredibly rare car with only 12 models ever produced globally.
Aside from being known as the last emperor of Vietnam, former emperor Bao Dai also attracted attention for his extravagant lifestyle. He owned several vacation villas in Hue, Do Son, and Da Lat, a collection of expensive Rolex watches, and a fleet of luxury and supercars.
Among the supercars owned by Bao Dai were three expensive Ferraris: the 340 America from 1952, the 375MM from 1955, and the 410 Superamerica S1 Coupe from 1955. All of these cars were purchased after he abdicated the throne in 1945.
Recently, news surfaced that Bao Dai’s Ferrari 410 Superamerica would be auctioned off, capturing the interest of many. According to the information released, the auction will take place over two days, August 16 and 17, in Pebble Beach, USA.
The Ferrari 410 Superamerica was designed by Pininfarina, and only 12 of these cars exist worldwide. Bao Dai’s car has a chassis code of 0493 SA and was completed in 1956. The exterior stands out with its dominant dark blue tone and a contrasting ivory-colored roof.
Even after almost 70 years, the Ferrari 410 Superamerica’s interior retains its luxurious feel, indicating that the car has been meticulously maintained. The original Connolly leather upholstery shows large cracks due to the passage of time but still maintains its shine.
Bao Dai’s 1955 Ferrari 410 Superamerica is equipped with a 5.0-liter V12 engine that produces a maximum power of 335 horsepower at 6,000 rpm, paired with a Weber 40DCF carburetor. The 1957 Superamerica III model had a slightly higher output of 355 horsepower.
At its launch, the Ferrari 410 Superamerica was sold at an extremely high price of $16,800. Today, it is challenging to determine the value of this supercar. Still, given its rarity and unique provenance, the price could reach several million dollars.
