MG is evolving the ZS compact SUV with a sportier design and a more modern interior. The new ZS is expected to offer various powertrain options, including gasoline, hybrid, and pure electric variants.
According to Carscoops, the next-generation ZS is part of MG’s ambitious plan to launch eight new models by 2028, demonstrating the Chinese automaker’s commitment to expanding its market presence.
The first images of the 2025 MG ZS from patent leaks have surfaced, allowing the artists at Carscoops to recreate the design, providing an overview of the SUV’s future look.
The new ZS’s design bears a resemblance to the new MG 3. The front end has been completely redesigned with a new grille and a sportier bumper. The LED headlights have a more stylish appearance, while the hood now looks longer, giving the SUV a more robust and muscular stance.
Viewed from the side, the 2025 MG ZS features a prominent character line that runs from the front wheel arch to the rear, accentuating its dynamic and sporty character. The ZS’s silhouette has a more squared-off shape, improving driver visibility and offering a more spacious interior.
Based on the patent images, the rear end remains sleek and modern, highlighted by the LED taillights that stretch across the width of the vehicle. The redesigned tailgate and sportier bumper create a more cohesive and striking appearance.
Details about the interior of the next-generation MG ZS are still under wraps, but it is expected to follow the MG 3’s design. The 2025 MG ZS could feature a more modern cabin with a digital instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch infotainment system, incorporating satellite navigation and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility.
Advanced driver-assistance systems on the MG ZS 2025 are expected to include automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, and traffic jam assist. The new ZS is likely to be based on the same Modular Scalable Platform as the MG 4.
While MG Motors has not disclosed specific powertrain details for the new ZS, the SUV will offer various options to cater to different markets and preferences. The 2025 MG ZS is expected to be available with gasoline, electric, and hybrid powertrains.
For reference, the current electric version of the MG ZS features a 50.3 kWh battery pack paired with an electric motor that delivers 130kW of power and 280Nm of torque. Meanwhile, the hybrid variant is expected to combine a 1.5L four-cylinder Atkinson cycle gasoline engine producing 101 horsepower and 128Nm of torque with a 100kW electric motor generating 250Nm of torque, resulting in a combined system output of 192 horsepower.
