The Volkswagen ID. Buzz: An Electric Minivan with a Nostalgic Twist Makes its Debut in Southeast Asia, Starting with Indonesia

Over a year after its global reveal, the Volkswagen ID. Buzz, an electric minivan, has made its debut in Indonesia. This marks the first time the vehicle has been introduced in the Southeast Asian market, with Indonesia being the chosen entry point.

The Volkswagen ID. Buzz is a stylish blend of old and new, drawing design inspiration from the iconic German brand’s legendary Microbus. With dimensions of 4,712 mm in length, 1,985 mm in width, and 1,927 mm in height, along with a wheelbase of 2,989 mm, the ID. Buzz is set to compete with the Toyota Innova Cross (4,755 x 1,850 x 1,790 mm). However, due to its characteristic short front end, the ID. Buzz boasts a wheelbase that is 139 mm longer than its Japanese rival.

Under the hood, this German-engineered minivan packs a punch with a rear-mounted electric motor delivering 282 horsepower and 406 Nm of torque. Volkswagen claims that the ID. Buzz can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.6 seconds, reaching a top speed of 160 km/h.

Keeping up with modern trends, the VW ID. Buzz supports fast charging technology, allowing it to charge from 5% to 80% in just 30 minutes. Alternatively, a full charge using a standard charger takes around 7.5 hours.

The ID. Buzz is packed with modern amenities, including matrix LED headlights and electric sliding doors. Inside, it features a 5.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, a head-up display, wireless charging, a Harman Kardon sound system, and tri-zone climate control, along with an array of advanced driver-assistance systems.

The Volkswagen ID. Buzz is scheduled to arrive at dealerships in Indonesia by February next year, carrying a price tag of $79,800 (approximately 2.014 billion VND). A long-wheelbase version, set to be introduced in November, will be priced at $91,800 (around 2.34 billion VND).
