Over 14,000 drivers were surveyed by AutoPacific on their most desired vehicle features, and wireless charging came out on top.

AutoPacific, a renowned automotive research company, has released its 2024 Future Attribute Desirability Study (FADS). This comprehensive study is based on the insights of 14,900 consumers who plan to purchase a new vehicle within the next three years. Participants were asked to provide their preferences regarding brands, attributes, and features when considering a new car. The following is a list of the top features desired by consumers in a new vehicle, ranked by the percentage of respondents who selected them:

1. Wireless charging pad for front-seat passengers: 44%

2. Wireless charging pad for rear-seat passengers: 37%

3. Heated and ventilated front seats: 37%

4. Gesture sensors: 36%

5. Sunroof: 35%

6. Driver profiles: 35%

7. 110-volt household power outlets: 34%

8. Rear-seat sunshades: 33%

9. Rear cross-traffic alert with automatic emergency braking: 32%

10. Integrated air compressor: 31%

It is intriguing to see that wireless phone charging has emerged as the most sought-after feature. AutoPacific noted that wireless charging pads for both front and rear seats were already in the top 10 of the 2023 FADS, and they have now claimed the top two spots this year.

Another notable feature in this year’s study is the inclusion of driver profiles, which also ranked 10th in the 2023 survey. This makes sense as vehicles with more features tend to offer a higher degree of personalization. According to Robby DeGraff, AutoPacific’s Director of Product Strategy, “Setting up driver profiles takes a bit of initial effort, but once they’re established, they’re incredibly useful. The driver simply gets into the car, and the vehicle automatically adjusts the seat, mirrors, steering wheel, audio, and numerous other personal settings to their liking.”

Interestingly, among the nearly 15,000 survey respondents, the top 10 desired features for a new vehicle were mostly comfort and convenience-oriented, rather than luxurious or high-end. Additionally, one of the top 10 features that drivers wanted in a new vehicle this year was the driver-assist feature that stops the vehicle if the driver does not respond. According to AutoPacfic, 45% of those surveyed expressed their desire for this technology due to the frequent incidents of collisions and fatalities associated with Tesla’s Autopilot mode.
