“The Xiaomi SU7 Car Owners’ Worries: Will the Trunk Flood and Cause OTA Paralysis Due to Altered Lights?”

The Xiaomi SU7 has undoubtedly created a frenzy in China since its launch, with test drive schedules running into the wee hours of the morning and eager drivers waiting their turn. However, a series of unfortunate events have since cast a shadow over the country’s largest smartphone maker, including accidents, vehicle malfunctions, and a majority of first-time electric vehicle buyers and inexperienced drivers behind the wheel. This could be the underlying cause of the numerous accidents involving this model.

New issues are now surfacing with the SU7, and some of them almost certainly have nothing to do with driver inexperience. The latest headlines involving this car are concerns about trunk water ingress and OTA (over-the-air) updates being disabled due to modified parts. Thus, the worries surrounding the quality of the Xiaomi SU7 refuse to subside.

Recently, several owners have reported issues with OTA updates, specifically with failed upgrades. This occurs when owners replace upgradeable parts, such as headlights, with non-Xiaomi components. All such parts have security locks for authentication management.

During the OTA process, these locks are verified, and the upgrade cannot proceed if there is a mismatch in the identification locks. According to a Xiaomi official, if the original part is reinstalled, the upgrade can be completed successfully.

The latest Xiaomi OTA update, HyperOS 1.2.0, introduces lane-level navigation on highways and urban expressways, including NOA (Navigation on Autopilot) in the city for eligible drivers. This requires the Xiaomi Pilot Max intelligent driving system, which both the SU7 Pro and SU7 Max variants are equipped with. Drivers also need to accumulate 1,000 km of safe intelligent driving mileage.

While automotive advancements are nothing new, the concerns about the trunk reveal that many Xiaomi owners are new to car ownership. The Xiaomi SU7 boasts one of the largest trunk spaces in an EV, with a capacity of 105 liters, surpassing the Tesla Model S’s 89 liters and the Porsche Taycan’s 84 liters. However, some owners worry that their trunk might fill with water during rainy weather.

To address these concerns, Xiaomi has reassured owners that the SU7 has a sealing strip in the front trunk area, ensuring that water will not enter during normal use. In the event of accidental liquid spillage into the space, there are two small rubber plugs on the front left and right sides that can be removed for liquid drainage. Any remaining liquid can then be wiped dry with a cloth.

The issues surrounding the Xiaomi SU7 continue to attract attention, and the company is working to address these concerns.
