Italian supercar maker Lamborghini is set to unveil the successor to the Huracan on August 16 during Monterey Car Week. But even before the official reveal, the company has released a teaser video focusing on the high-revving engine of this supercar to whet our appetite.
Unlike its naturally aspirated V10-powered predecessors, the Gallardo and Huracan, featured in the clip, the new model will be equipped with a twin-turbocharged V8 engine. While it may not have the same naturally aspirated sound, this new powerplant will still deliver an impressive auditory experience and, more importantly, push the car past the “red line.”
Successor to the Gallardo and Huracan: Lamborghini Temerario Teases 10,000+ RPM Redline in Video
The teaser video creates a bit of a puzzle as it appears to show the 4.0-liter engine revving beyond the initially announced redline. When Lamborghini first detailed the brand-new V8, they stated that the internal combustion engine would produce 789 horsepower between 9,000 and 9,750 rpm, before hitting a redline of 10,000 rpm.
However, in this video, the digital tachometer displayed shows a red needle exceeding the previously disclosed maximum engine speed. While Lamborghini has not yet revealed the combined power output, CEO Stephan Winkelmann hinted in a social media post that it would be over 900 CV, which equates to approximately 887 horsepower—a significant jump from the Huracan’s 631 horsepower.
Reportedly named the “Temerario,” this new raging bull from Sant’Agata Bolognese will not have a direct rival in the form of the Audi R8 this time around. Audi has committed to developing a new supercar at some point, but it will solely be an EV. The Huracan successor is a purely Lamborghini effort as the company is financially capable of undertaking this endeavor on its own, without the need to share costs with Audi.
