Vietnam’s Electric Motorcycle Market Heats Up: Nuen Moto Enters the Scene with the Nuen N1-S
Vietnam’s electric vehicle market is about to get a jolt of excitement with the introduction of a new player, Nuen Moto, and its inaugural offering, the Nuen N1-S. This cutting-edge electric motorcycle is slated for launch in the fourth quarter of this year and promises to be a game-changer.
According to Nuen Moto, the N1-S is Vietnam’s first “high-performance electric motorcycle.” It will be available in two distinct versions: the Founder’s Edition and the Signature Edition. The Founder’s Edition, a limited-run premium variant, will see only 50 units produced.
While the company has started taking reservations for the N1-S, the pricing details are still under wraps.
Ahead of its official unveiling, Nuen Moto has released a video teaser, giving us a glimpse of the bike’s sleek design and technical specifications. The N1-S boasts a compact urban scrambler form, exceptional performance, and a distinct aesthetic appeal.
With overall dimensions larger than your average commuter bike, the N1-S stretches to a length of 2,070 mm, boasts a wheelbase of 1,450 mm, and sits 175 mm off the ground. Its substantial presence is further emphasized by its weight, tipping the scales at 165 kg.
In terms of rolling stock, the Nuen N1-S sports meaty rubber, with a 120/70 front tire wrapped around a 17-inch wheel and a substantial 180/55 rear tire on a matching 17-inch rim. These tire dimensions are comparable to those found on the Honda CB650R and Yamaha XSR700, underscoring the N1-S’s performance potential.
The suspension setup on the Nuen N1-S comprises an Upside-down fork at the front and a Monoshock at the rear. The top-tier Founder’s Edition takes it up a notch with premium Ohlins suspension and Brembo brakes at both ends.
Powering the Nuen N1-S is an electric motor that punches out an impressive 32 horsepower and a staggering 190 Nm of torque. This potent drivetrain is complemented by an 8 kWh battery pack, which Nuen Moto claims is “one of the safest systems in its segment.” The pack is safeguarded by a five-layer safety protocol encompassing thermal, mechanical, electrical, electronic, and software protection, along with a comprehensive sensor network.
The pre-production prototype boasts an impressive range of up to 200 km on a single charge when maintained at a steady speed of 50 km/h. It can also attain a top speed of 130 km/h. When it comes to recharging, the N1-S supports fast charging, taking just 40 minutes to go from 0% to 80% charged (or 60 minutes for a full charge) using a DC 3-phase power source from the company’s dedicated charging stations. Charging at home using a standard 220V outlet will take a bit longer, with 0-80% taking 3 hours (or 4.5 hours for a full charge).
The Nuen N1-S also incorporates a host of safety features, including dual-channel ABS and regenerative braking. It also offers a reverse function, cruise control, and an IP67 water-resistant rating, allowing it to wade through water up to 50 cm deep for up to 30 minutes.
