Recently, images of a convoy of luxury cars owned by Cambodian tycoons have gone viral across multiple online communities. The cars were assembled in the country’s capital, Phnom Penh, and were set to embark on a journey to Siem Reap. The reason for this sudden surge in interest is that Cambodia is currently the most vibrant hub for the world’s largest supercar rally, Gumball 3000, which will take place in the country over two days: September 16 and 17, 2024.
Interestingly, four VinFast Lux A2.0 cars were provided by the Cambodian police to lead a convoy of over 30 luxury vehicles owned by local tycoons to Siem Reap for a special event. This unexpected development has surprised many.
The highlight of this event was the presence of two megacars owned by Cambodian tycoons: a standard Bugatti Chiron and a Bugatti Chiron Super Sport owned by a Singaporean who purchased the car in Cambodia and registered it in the country, similar to how Hoang Kim Khanh registered his Koenigsegg Regera and McLaren Senna. However, the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport has been permanently based in Cambodia.
Both the standard Chiron and the Chiron Super Sport are set to participate in the Gumball 3000 supercar rally in 2024, but it is unclear whether they will travel to Vietnam for the start of the event or simply join the convoy as it crosses the border from Moc Bai in Tay Ninh province to Bavet in Cambodia.
It is worth noting that only 60 Bugatti Chiron Super Sports were produced worldwide, with a price tag of $3.9 million each, or approximately 90 billion VND. This is $1.3 million more than the standard version, and it is estimated that over 20 of these cars are currently in Asia.
The Bugatti Chiron Super Sport is powered by a W16 engine with a displacement of 8.0 liters and four turbochargers, generating a maximum output of 1,578 horsepower and 1,600 Nm of torque. However, the French manufacturer has limited the car’s top speed to 440 km/h for safety and regulatory compliance.
The next two standout supercars in this convoy are the latest-generation Porsche 911 GT3 RS 992 and the limited-edition Lamborghini Aventador LP770-4 SVJ, both owned by the same individual who owns the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport.
The Porsche 911 GT3 RS 992 is powered by a 4.0-liter naturally aspirated flat-six engine, similar to the one found in the street-legal Porsche 911 GT3 992 owned by Mr. Vu. However, the GT3 RS produces 518 horsepower thanks to a new camshaft with a single throttle valve system and a rigid valve drive derived from motorsports.
Unfortunately, Porsche only offers the 911 GT3 RS 992 with a 7-speed PDK automatic transmission, unlike the street-legal Porsche 911 GT3 992, which also has a manual transmission option. This has led to situations where enthusiasts, like the Chairman of Trung Nguyen, have to purchase two different cars to enjoy their preferred driving experience. The Porsche 911 GT3 RS 992 can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.2 seconds and has a top speed of 296 km/h.
The Lamborghini Aventador SVJ, on the other hand, is equipped with a naturally aspirated 6.5-liter V12 engine that produces 770 horsepower and 720 Nm of torque. This supercar can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.8 seconds and has a top speed of 350 km/h.
Other notable cars in the convoy include the Lamborghini Aventador, Lamborghini Huracan, Aston Martin DB12, and numerous other supercars, sports cars, and SUVs.
