Hybrid Cars Gain Traction in Vietnam with Rising Sales in Early 2024

Hybrid cars are gaining popularity among Vietnamese consumers, as evidenced by their consecutive sales growth in the first months of 2024.

According to a report by the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (VAMA), 695 hybrid vehicles were delivered to customers in July 2024, a 20% increase compared to the previous month.

Specifically, the best-selling hybrid model was the Honda CR-V e:RS, with sales of 270 units, marking a 125% increase from June (120 units).

Aside from the Honda CR-V e:RS, other models such as the Toyota Corolla Altis HEV, Corolla Cross HEV, and Yaris Cross HEV also witnessed notable sales growth in July.

On the other hand, the Toyota Innova Cross HEV and Camry HEV experienced a slight dip in sales due to ongoing supply issues.

The Suzuki Ertiga hybrid also saw a sales decline as the model is being phased out. Nonetheless, the Suzuki Ertiga hybrid has been the best-selling hybrid model in the market for the past seven months, with sales of 1,200 units. This is followed by the Toyota Innova Cross with 985 units and the Honda CR-V in third place with 805 units.

The Vietnamese automotive market is set to become even more vibrant with the introduction of several new hybrid models. Recently, the CEO of BYD Vietnam revealed plans to launch a new pickup truck with a hybrid powertrain in the country.

Another Chinese automaker, Haval, is also bringing its Jolion hybrid SUV to Vietnam to compete with the Toyota Corolla Cross hybrid and Yaris Cross hybrid.

At the Vietnam Motor Show (VMS) 2024, scheduled for October, Honda is expected to introduce and start taking orders for the Civic hybrid 2024.

Not to be outdone, Suzuki has announced the launch of the XL7 hybrid on August 20th. This model will replace the Ertiga hybrid and is anticipated to become the brand’s sales leader.
