While BYD ranked extremely high in July, its year-to-date sales for the first seven months placed it at eighth overall.
According to data from Yiche, BYD was the third best-selling brand globally in July 2024. The data shows that BYD sold nearly half as many vehicles as the top-ranked Toyota and was just 30,000 units shy of Volkswagen in second place.
Specifically, the BYD brand sold 315,600 vehicles in July compared to Toyota’s 651,200 and Volkswagen’s 346,200. No other Chinese brands made it into the top 10, however, Chery claimed the eighteenth spot with 71,100 units sold, while Geely came in twentieth with 63,800 units.
Despite its impressive performance in July, BYD secured the eighth position when considering cumulative sales for the first seven months of 2024, with 1,714,100 vehicles sold. Geely’s sales were significantly lower, totaling 577,700 units, placing them in the fifteenth spot. Toyota and Volkswagen maintained their first and second rankings, respectively, while Honda came in third in the year-to-date sales statistics.
