These charging stations will adhere to a universal standard, catering to all types of electric vehicles.
Ho Chi Minh City plans to convert 2,771 buses to electric power in the 2025-2030 period, with 1,108 of them to be deployed on new routes. To meet the charging demands of these buses, the project for the transition to electric buses and green energy has proposed the construction of 25 public charging stations.
Of these, the city’s Public Transport Management Center will invest 1,220.7 billion VND from the city’s budget to build 17 charging stations. The remaining 8 stations will be developed by the Saigon Mechanical and Transportation Corporation – Limited Liability One-Member Company (Samco) with a capital of over 800 billion VND.
The stations deployed by Samco will be installed at major terminals, including the Eastern Bus Station, the New Eastern Bus Station, the Western Bus Station, and the An Suong Bus Station.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transportation, these charging stations will adhere to universal standards and support all types of electric vehicles. In addition to the publicly funded stations, private investors are also encouraged to participate, with a policy offering loans of up to 70% of the total project investment. The interest rate for these loans is set at 50% of the interest rate announced by the Ho Chi Minh City State Financial Investment Company for the duration of the loan. The city budget will subsidize the remaining 50% of the interest.
In the near future, Ho Chi Minh City plans to continue surveying locations to further expand the network of charging stations.
