Just a few days ago, the homepage of Mazda in the Vietnamese market suddenly hid information about the 2.5L Signature Premium version of the Mazda6, leading many to believe that this D-segment sedan would only have 2 versions with the sole engine option of 2.0L for Vietnamese customers.

However, Mazda has recently re-displayed the 2.5L Signature Premium version on its homepage and adjusted the price from 899 million VND to 874 million VND.

Thus, at the present time, the Mazda6 still has a total of 3 versions for Vietnamese customers, including 2.0L Luxury (769 million VND), 2.0L Premium (809 million VND), and 2.5L Signature Premium GTCC priced at 874 million VND.

Sharing with Knowledge – Znews, Mr. Dac Khoa, a sales consultant at a Mazda dealership in Ho Chi Minh City, said that the number of Mazda6 2.5L cars at the dealership is limited as this D-segment sedan is in the process of transitioning from the old generation to the new generation.

At the current price range, the Mazda6 remains the most affordable representative in the D-segment sedan market. The Kia K5 is priced at 859-999 million VND depending on the version, while the Toyota Camry’s price ranges from 1.105 billion to 1.495 billion VND. In the meantime, the sole version of the Honda Accord is priced at 1.319 billion VND.

After the sales figures for June were announced, the Mazda6 became one of the slowest-selling models of the Mazda brand in the Vietnamese market. This D-segment sedan recorded sales of 237 units, which is only better than the 5-unit sales of the Mazda BT-50 pickup truck, which has been discontinued since early May.

Most of the Mazda6’s competitors in the D-segment sedan market are also experiencing less-than-favorable sales in the Vietnamese auto market. In the first 6 months of the year, the Kia K5 recorded cumulative sales of 132 units, while the Honda Accord sold 48 units. In this segment, only the Toyota Camry has relatively favorable sales performance, with sales reaching 660 units in the first half of the year.

Last week, the BYD Seal, which was officially introduced to Vietnamese customers, has become a new and interesting competitor for D-segment sedans in the Vietnamese market. The car has 2 versions: Advanced and Performance, priced at 1.119 billion VND and 1.359 billion VND, respectively.

Despite having a price similar to that of the Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, and to some extent, the Kia K5, the success or at least the competitiveness of the BYD Seal compared to the gasoline-powered sedans in the same D-segment still remains a big question mark.
