Gumball 3000 is not just a 3,000-mile supercar journey; it’s a spectacular music festival featuring world-renowned DJs and celebrities. It’s also a gathering of rare supercars, which is why car enthusiasts in Vietnam were thrilled when the 25th edition of this supercar event chose their country as its starting point.

One of the highlights of Gumball 3000 2024 is the Porsche Carrera GT, a Thai-plated supercar. It is believed that Thai collectors own over five of these cars out of the 1,270 produced globally.

This million-dollar Porsche Carrera GT from Thailand is a timeless beauty. It needs no flashy decals, just its original paint, and the Gumball 3000 25th-anniversary stickers to stand out.

The Porsche Carrera GT has a unique and eye-catching design, and its manual gearbox is a delight for car enthusiasts and collectors alike. So, it’s no surprise that the presence of this supercar in the Gumball 3000 2024 lineup has captured the attention of car enthusiasts in Vietnam.

The Porsche Carrera GT was produced from 2004 to 2006. Sports Car International ranked it as the number one sports car of the 2000s and eighth on the list of Top Sports Cars of All Time. Popular Science also awarded it the “Best of What’s New” award in 2003 for its advanced technology and chassis development.

In fact, many car enthusiasts consider the Porsche Carrera GT superior to the later Porsche 918 Spyder. This is partly because the Carrera GT’s development can be traced back to the 911 GT1 and LMP1-98 racing cars, and Porsche had also planned a new Le Mans prototype for the 1999 season.

The car was initially intended to use a flat-six cylinder turbocharged engine, but it was redesigned to accommodate a new V10 engine, pushing back its completion date to 2000. This V10 engine was secretly developed by Porsche for the Footwork Formula 1 team in 1992 but was later shelved. It was then revived for the Le Mans prototype.

Specifically, the Porsche Carrera GT is powered by a 5.7-liter V10 engine that produces a maximum of 605 horsepower at 8,000 rpm. This powerful engine enables the Porsche supercar to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds.
