The Gumball 3000 2024 rally, which made its first appearance in Vietnam, featured some stunning supercars, including a silver Ferrari 575M Maranello owned by a Thai billionaire. Interestingly, the license plate of the car bore the same number as the model, 575.

As soon as it arrived on Le Loi Boulevard in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City, the Ferrari 575M Maranello immediately drew attention when it parked next to another rare supercar from Thailand, the Porsche Carrera GT.

These two supercars, with their contrasting colors of black and silver, and their association with the prancing horse logo, were the highlights of the 25th Gumball 3000 rally, the world’s largest supercar event, attended by two Thai billionaires.

Only 2,056 units of the Ferrari 575M Maranello were ever produced, including 246 with a manual transmission, so its presence at the Gumball 3000 2024 rally garnered significant attention.

The Ferrari 575M Maranello, a predecessor to the Ferrari 599 GTB, was produced for just four years, from 2002 to 2006, in line with the philosophy of the prancing horse marque. As expected, it is equipped with the legendary V12 engine.

Specifically, the Ferrari 575M Maranello is a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive supercar. Its V12 engine has a displacement of 5.7 liters, natural aspiration, a bore of 89 mm, and a stroke of 77 mm. It features a DOHC valvetrain with four valves per cylinder and dry sump lubrication.

This powerhouse generates a maximum output of 515 PS (379 kW or 508 hp) at 7,250 rpm and a peak torque of 588 Nm at 5,250 rpm. The Ferrari 575M Maranello has a top speed of 325 km/h and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.2 seconds, with a quarter-mile time of 12.25 seconds.

Introduced in 2002, the 575M Maranello is essentially an updated version of the 550 Maranello with minor styling changes by Pininfarina.

The updates from the 550 include a redesigned interior, larger brakes, a more powerful and larger engine, improved weight distribution, refined aerodynamics and fluid dynamics, and an adaptive suspension system (the four independent suspension systems are also controlled by the transmission to minimize height changes during the 200-millisecond gear shifts).

There were two six-speed transmission options available: a conventional manual transmission and, for the first time in a Ferrari V12, an automated manual “F1” transmission built by Graziano Trasmissioni. The model number 575 refers to the total engine displacement in centiliters, while ‘M’ stands for modificata, indicating the updated design.

In 2005, the company introduced the GTC handling package and the limited-edition Superamerica (559 units) with a retractable hardtop, along with a power increase from 515 PS (379 kW or 508 hp) to 540 PS (397 kW or 533 hp).
