The exclusion of a diesel engine option in the new-generation Hyundai Santa Fe has driven customers who prefer this type of engine to opt for older models, causing a rise in prices.
On September 18, Hyundai TC Motor jointly launched the 2025 Santa Fe model. This new generation offers five versions, featuring two Smartstream Theta III 2.5L (code G4KN) and Turbo 2.5L (code G4KP) gasoline engine configurations. Consequently, the South Korean automaker has discontinued the diesel engine option for this D-segment CUV.
As a result, customers who favor diesel engines have started hunting for older-generation Santa Fe diesel models, creating a mini-frenzy in the used car market and driving up prices for this version.
At a private showroom in Bac Giang, a high-end 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe diesel with an ODO of over 5,000 km is priced at up to 1.35 billion VND. This amount is even comparable to the price of the newest generation Santa Fe’s top-of-the-line model, listed at 1.37 billion VND at dealerships.
Additionally, older Santa Fe models, from 2022-2023, are also being offered by car owners at prices ranging from 1 billion VND.
For customers who are not diesel enthusiasts, the new-generation Santa Fe remains a far more appealing choice. Besides its fresh, boxy exterior, this CUV boasts a host of upgrades, including a dual 12.3-inch screen setup, ambient lighting, wireless charging, a heads-up display, and a Bose sound system. The 2025 Santa Fe Calligraphy Turbo is equipped with a 2.5L turbocharged 4-cylinder gasoline engine that delivers 277 horsepower and 422 Nm of torque, paired with an 8-speed wet dual-clutch automatic transmission. Hyundai claims that this CUV can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in less than 8 seconds, making it the fastest in its segment.
