On September 2, 2024, BYD celebrated a significant milestone as it rolled out its 9 millionth new energy vehicle (NEV), the Yangwang U9.

Just over two months ago, BYD reached the 8 millionth NEV milestone with the Dolphin model, produced in its Thailand plant. With its current production rate, BYD is projected to hit the 10 million or even 11 million mark by the end of this year.
BYD’s new brand, Yangwang, introduces the U9, with 1 million vehicles produced in just over two months.
BYD’s first NEV, the F3DM, a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) sedan, was launched in the Chinese market in 2008. It took the company about 13 years to reach the 1 millionth NEV milestone with the BYD Han in May 2021. Since then, BYD has produced an additional 8 million NEVs in just over three years.
The Yangwang U9 is BYD’s all-electric supercar, unveiled at the 2023 Shanghai Auto Show. It carries the new Yangwang brand, established by the parent company BYD.
The U9 is built on the e4 platform, featuring a carbon fiber monocoque chassis and the advanced DiSus-X active chassis control system. This technology includes Disus-C (intelligent chassis control), Disus-P (intelligent hydraulic chassis control), and Disus-A (intelligent pneumatic chassis control), enabling lateral and longitudinal motion control. As a result, the U9 can perform jumps and bunny hops with all four wheels off the ground.
Additionally, this sports car can run on just three wheels, thanks to its corner-lifting system, which raises one corner of the vehicle to prevent the brake rotor from touching the ground.
Aside from its dynamic chassis, the Yangwang U9 boasts impressive features such as large ‘C’-shaped LED headlights that wrap around the front, F1-style, a full-width taillight, butterfly doors, triangular air intakes behind the front wheels, and a faux engine cover with a transparent fin, reminiscent of Lamborghini supercars.

Under the hood, the Yangwang U9 is powered by four electric motors, delivering a staggering 1,287 horsepower and 1,680 Nm of torque. This propels the car from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.36 seconds, with a top speed of 300 km/h. The car features an electronic all-wheel-drive system with advanced torque vectoring capabilities.
The U9 is equipped with a BYD Blade LFP battery pack offering an 80 kWh capacity and a range of 450 kilometers on the CLTC cycle in China. Its 800V architecture enables fast charging, allowing a charge from 30% to 80% in just 10 minutes. A 7 kW AC slow charger is also included, taking about seven hours for a full charge.
In the Chinese market, the Yangwang U9 carries a starting price of 1.68 million Chinese Yuan (approximately 5.88 billion VND). BYD has already introduced three electric vehicle models in Vietnam as of July this year: the Atto 3, Dolphin, and Seal. The company plans to launch two more models, the Han and M6, in the Vietnamese market by the end of this year.
