Among the over 100 cars that participated in the world’s largest supercar rally, Gumball 3000 2024, one particular vehicle stood out and received special “attention” from car enthusiasts, photographers, and even children. It was the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport, a megacar with only 60 units produced globally, and one-tenth of those are owned by individuals in the Asean region, including a Singaporean entrepreneur based in Cambodia.

It may sound like a joke, but the Bugatti Chiron, already renowned as the king of speed and the fastest of the fast, has an even more extreme version – the Super Sport. One can only imagine the monstrous power it possesses, as the French automaker had to limit its top speed to 440 km/h for safety and regulatory compliance.

With such extreme performance, the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport is more at home on racetracks and highways than on the challenging routes of the Gumball 3000 2024, which include rough terrain, potholes, and muddy stretches. Yet, the owner enthusiastically pushed the car to its limits during the event.

Instead of opting for maritime or vehicle recovery transport from Singapore to Cambodia, the owner of the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport chose to continue the journey by driving nearly 3,000 km back to their home country, a decision that defied conventional thinking, considering the challenges even an SUV or sports car would face on such a trip, let alone a speed monster like the Chiron Super Sport. This particular supercar, worth millions of dollars, has arguably the fastest-spinning odometer in the world, covering nearly 8,000 km in just 10 days, with some days demanding a grueling 1,200 km of driving.

Bugatti plans to produce only 60 units of the Chiron Super Sport. This limited production run, coupled with its immense power and luxurious features, has pushed the price of the car to $3.9 million, or approximately 90 billion VND, excluding any additional costs incurred by the Cambodian owner through a dealership purchase. This particular Chiron Super Sport stands out with its numerous options, including a classy green carbon fiber exterior.

The Bugatti Chiron Super Sport is an intricate puzzle piece, blending the raw power of the Chiron Super Sport 300+ with the original Chiron’s inherent elegance. It boasts a sleek and elongated rear end that generates substantial downforce, equivalent to having a functional rear wing in Top Speed mode. Similar to the Super Sport 300+, the soft curve of the front bumper’s air intake and the dual exhaust pipes at the back pay homage to the iconic Bugatti EB110.

One of the Chiron Super Sport’s most distinctive features is its Y-shaped aluminum alloy wheels. However, if desired, owners can opt for an upgrade to the magnesium alloy wheels found on the Pur Sport model. Inside the cockpit, the Chiron Super Sport differs significantly from its 300+ and Pur Sport siblings. Instead of Alcantara, a premium leather upholstery graces the interior, along with shiny aluminum trim and luxurious accessories befitting “high-speed, long-distance journeys,” such as the Gumball 3000 2024.

The absence of the “300+” suffix in the car’s name hints at a significant change. Despite retaining the same W16 engine with dual-stage turbochargers, producing a staggering 1,578 horsepower and 1,600 Nm of torque, Bugatti has limited the Chiron Super Sport’s top speed to 440 km/h for safety and regulatory compliance.

According to Bugatti, this speed restriction does not diminish the car’s overall performance. The Chiron Super Sport can accelerate from 0 to 200 km/h in just 5.8 seconds and reach 300 km/h in 12.1 seconds, outperforming the standard Chiron. This superior performance was demonstrated on the Sepang circuit in Malaysia.
