From January 2025, drivers of motor vehicles are not permitted to drive for more than 10 hours in a day and no more than 48 hours in a week, with a maximum of 4 consecutive hours behind the wheel.
Article 64 of the 2024 Road Traffic Safety and Order Law, which comes into force on January 1, 2025, clearly states the working hours of drivers of commercial and internal transport motor vehicles. Specifically, the working hours of drivers must comply with the provisions of the Labor Code.
As such, the driving time for motor vehicle drivers should not exceed 10 hours a day and 48 hours a week, with a maximum of 4 consecutive hours of driving.
Commercial transport businesses, internal transport units, and drivers of commercial and internal transport motor vehicles are responsible for complying with the provisions of this Article.
Previously, the 2008 Road Traffic Law clearly stated that the working hours of motor vehicle drivers should not exceed 10 hours a day and they should not drive continuously for more than 4 hours.
Thus, according to the new regulations in the 2024 Road Traffic Safety and Order Law, from January 1, 2025, drivers will not be allowed to drive for more than 48 hours in a week.
In case of violation of this regulation, drivers of commercial and internal transport motor vehicles will be subject to a fine of VND 3 million to VND 5 million and revocation of their driver’s license for 1 to 3 months, according to Article 23 of Decree 100/2019/ND-CP.
Meanwhile, for vehicle owners, Article 30 of Decree 100/2019/ND-CP stipulates a fine of VND 8 million to VND 12 million for those who hand over their vehicle or allow their employee to drive beyond the prescribed time limit or working hours.
