At the seminar “Developing Green Transport: Challenges and Solutions to Attract Investment” hosted by Giao Thong Newspaper, speakers cited statistics from 2020 showing that the transport sector accounted for nearly 18% of total greenhouse gas emissions (45.5 million tons of CO2) in Vietnam. It is projected to reach 89.1 million tons of CO2 by 2030, with road transport being the largest contributor, accounting for over 80%.

It is evident that the impact of vehicles, especially cars, on the environment is significant, and the transition to green transport is crucial for achieving a larger goal.

Representatives from participating brands at Vietnam Motor Show 2024 pledged their commitment to global efforts in environmental protection, climate change mitigation, and promoting the sustainable development of the automotive industry.

Net Zero Target by 2050

In 2022, the Prime Minister issued Decision 876 dated July 2, 2022, approving the action program on green energy transition, carbon and methane emission reduction for the transport sector. The main goal is to develop a green transport system to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions in Vietnam by 2050.

Similar to Vietnam, countries in the region, including Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, and Singapore, have also set Net Zero targets for 2050. Indonesia, on the other hand, aims for a similar goal by 2060.

As of now, the Philippines is the only Southeast Asian country that hasn’t set any targets for Net Zero, but it aims to reduce carbon emissions by 75% between 2020 and 2030. The entire ASEAN bloc has a shared goal of achieving Net Zero by 2060.

The United States aims for Net Zero before 2050, while China targets carbon neutrality by 2060. Norway stands out with its commitment to becoming an early carbon-neutral country in the region, aiming for 2030.

In the pursuit of Net Zero goals, road transport will play a pivotal role. Alongside public transport like taxis and buses, personal vehicles, including motorcycles and cars, are also a key focus in the greening process.

VMS 2024 – An Ideal Perspective on Green Transport

After a one-year hiatus, the Vietnam Motor Show 2024 (VMS 2024) is making a comeback. It will be held from October 23 to 27 at the Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center (SECC) in District 7, Ho Chi Minh City.

This year, VMS 2024 will bring together renowned automotive brands such as GAC, Isuzu, Mitsubishi, Skoda, Subaru, Suzuki, Toyota, MG, BYD, Honda, and GAZ. Motorcycle brands will also be present at the exhibition, including Honda Motor, SYM, Yamaha Motor, UM Motocycles, Harley-Davidson, Triumph Motorcycles, KTM, and Husqvarna Motorcycles, promising a diverse range of exhibits and making VMS 2024 an ideal showcase of the future of green transport in Vietnam.

Many car manufacturers participating in VMS 2024 have demonstrated their commitment to transitioning to an all-electric future, reflecting the collective effort toward greener transportation, not only in Vietnam but also globally.

Toyota is a leader in electrification technology globally, offering a diverse range of products, from self-charging hybrids to plug-in hybrids, battery electric vehicles, and fuel cell electric vehicles. BYD entered the Vietnamese market with its pure electric vehicle lineup, while Mitsubishi, Subaru, and Suzuki have consecutively introduced hybrid-powered vehicles in various markets.

As a result, the exhibition booths at VMS 2024 will not only showcase their star models but also provide visitors with a diverse range of vehicles, from conventional combustion engines to hybrids and pure electric cars.

The presence of motorcycle brands such as Honda Motor, SYM, Yamaha Motor, UM Motocycles, Harley-Davidson, Triumph Motorcycles, KTM, and Husqvarna Motorcycles adds to the diversity of VMS 2024. In addition to vehicle displays, the exhibition will also introduce new and modern technologies, giving visitors a glimpse into the future of green transport.

As part of VMS 2024, a seminar on “Reducing Emissions from Transport and Green Energy Transition for Environmental Protection” will be held. This forum will bring together industry leaders and electric vehicle developers to discuss two critical issues: “Electrification and Technology in Vehicles” and “Proper Use of Euro 5 Fuel.” It will emphasize green and clean energy solutions, contributing to global efforts in environmental protection and climate change mitigation.

Vietnam Motor Show 2024 is expected to be a gathering of new energy vehicles and future technologies aimed at green transport.

VMS 2024 – A Solid Step Forward

Thus, VMS 2024, taking place in October, will be a showcase of new energy vehicles and future technologies aimed at green transport. It will also be a platform for discussions to raise community awareness about the benefits of vehicle electrification.

This diversity promises to enhance visitors’ understanding of the green transport transition and offers a valuable opportunity for Vietnamese consumers to gain in-depth knowledge about new energy vehicles.

As a result, the Vietnam Motor Show 2024 will serve as a solid stepping stone for the transportation electrification campaign in Vietnam, bringing us closer to achieving the Net Zero target by 2050.

First held in 2002, VMS has been recognized by professionals as Vietnam’s largest and most captivating exhibition. This year’s event, VMS 2024, is expected to attract over 200,000 direct visitors during the five-day exhibition and reach millions of automotive enthusiasts online throughout the duration of the event.
