XPeng Motors has unveiled its new P7+ BEV sedan, the first model in the company’s lineup to ditch LiDAR sensors in favor of a camera-only system, similar to Tesla.

Electric vehicle manufacturer Xpeng recently introduced the P7+ sedan at an event in Shenzhen, China, touting it as the world’s first AI (artificial intelligence) car with AI-powered features such as ADAS, intelligent driving, performance, energy control, and temperature control.

The P7+ is Xpeng’s newest model with the internal code name F57. According to CnEVPost, the car will not use any LiDAR sensors, opting instead for a camera-only system, much like Tesla.

Xpeng refers to this solution as its “Eagle Eye” visual technology, claiming it can gather more accurate and clearer information from a greater distance than traditional cameras, scanning an area of up to 1.8 soccer fields.

The system is powered by two Nvidia Orin X chips, and the company says that its XNGP (Xpeng Navigation Guided Pilot) feature will be available when the car is officially delivered.

The manufacturer describes the P7+ as a “three-in-one” vehicle, combining the looks of a coupe with the space of an SUV and the comfort of an MPV, along with a luxurious interior. Accordingly, this new all-electric sedan has dimensions of 5,056 mm in length, 1,937 mm in width, and 1,512 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,000 mm. These measurements are slightly larger than those of its sibling, the P7i.

The XPeng P7+ is equipped with a lithium iron phosphate battery offering options of 60.7 kWh and 76.3 kWh, resulting in CLTC ranges of 620 km and 710 km, respectively. The car’s exterior design has been optimized for low aerodynamic drag, and Xpeng claims the P7+ consumes just 11.6 kWh of electricity per 100 km.

The vehicle’s cockpit is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chip, currently the standard in premium electric vehicles. At the event, the company also highlighted that the P7+’s interior can accommodate up to 33 20-inch suitcases, which is considered the largest luggage space in the segment for cars priced below 300,000 RMB in China.

Xpeng stated that the P7+ display cars are already available in some of its showrooms, and the official launch and delivery of the vehicle are expected to take place in early November.
