Up for auction by Broad Arrow Auctions, this 1984 Porsche 911 SC/RS Gruppe B, sometimes referred to as the “Evolutionsserie,” was one of twenty identical cars built by the manufacturer for racing. In fact, it did race and remains street-legal to this day.

Think of this car as a 911 SC built for the World Rally Group B. As such, it features the body of a 911 Turbo. The doors, fenders, and hood are made of aluminum. The Lolipop seats from the 935 keep the driver in place, and the brakes are derived from the 917 to slow down this beast.

That’s a good thing because the engine reportedly puts out 270 horsepower, and the entire car weighs just 980 kg. Notably, this is the last SC/RS ever built. It raced in the 1984 WRC Tour de Course and finished in 14th place, the highest position among all Porsches in that event.

Broad Arrow points out that due to this car’s racing heritage and its dual nature of being both a race car and street-legal, it’s in a league of its own. The 904 Carerra GTS and the 911 R are the only other Porsches with this dual nature.
