The Vietnamese auto market in the third quarter was rather quiet due to customers waiting for support policies on registration fees, as well as the Hungry Ghost Month. However, there were still some bright spots in the affordable car segment, which helped carry their respective brands through the quarter.

According to reports from the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (VAMA) and Hyundai Thanh Cong (TC Motor), the top 10 best-selling models in the third quarter of 2024 remained mostly unchanged from the previous quarter, with the exception of the new Honda City and the absence of the Toyota Innova Cross.

At the end of the third quarter of 2024, the Mitsubishi Xforce witnessed a surprising jump from its sixth position in the previous quarter to the top spot. Specifically, the Mitsubishi Xforce became the best-selling model with 6,073 units sold, more than doubling its sales from the second quarter, which stood at 2,556 units.

Holding on to the second position in the top 10 best-selling models in the third quarter of 2024 is another Mitsubishi, the Xpander. Compared to the previous quarter, the Mitsubishi Xpander dropped one spot to make way for its sibling. In the third quarter, the Xpander sold a total of 5,183 units, with September 2024 sales alone accounting for 2,688 units – leading the market for that month.

The Toyota Vios also made a remarkable leap in the third quarter of 2024, climbing from seventh place in the previous quarter to third. Specifically, the Toyota Vios sold 4,597 units in the third quarter of 2024, doubling its sales from the second quarter, which stood at 2,458 units. It is currently the best-selling sedan in the market.

In the third quarter of 2024, the Ford Ranger seemed to slow down in the “2024 Sales King” race, ranking fourth with 1,585 units sold. The fifth position in the top 10 best-selling models in the third quarter of 2024 went to the Mazda CX-5 with 3,970 units sold.

The following positions were held by the Hyundai Accent with 3,212 units sold, Toyota Yaris Cross with 3,148 units, Honda City with 2,755 units, Ford Everest with 2,711 units, and the Toyota Veloz Cross with 2,451 units.
