The chase began in Hesperia, California, just before 10 p.m. when the driver allegedly sped away from a traffic stop. A news helicopter captured the pursuit on the westbound I-10 near exit 31B in Baldwin Park, California.
According to the agency, the chase reached speeds of over 100 miles per hour, and deputies deployed a spike strip to try and disable the sports car. This did not immediately stop the car, but it eventually led to a flat tire on the front driver’s side.
The helicopter captured the moment the tire blew out at approximately 80 miles per hour. The speed decreased slightly, but the driver maintained control and continued to pass several vehicles before exiting the freeway. Eventually, the driver was unable to continue.
About a minute after the Corvette lost its tire, the driver lost control of the sports car and crashed into a wall. Deputies quickly apprehended the driver and a passenger. Notably, the pursuit ended in El Monte, California. The driver had traveled nearly 70 miles during the chase. The driver, being only 15 years old, will not have their information released by authorities, while the passenger was identified as a 19-year-old male.
