The Australian automotive website Drive has shared the first images of the upcoming Mitsubishi Pajero Sport 2026 ahead of its official launch later next year. The photos, captured by Motor.es in Spain, reveal a prototype of the seven-seat SUV that appears to combine the third-generation Triton pickup truck’s front end with the current body of the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport.

Similar to how the Ford Everest is based on the Ranger pickup, or the Fortuner is derived from the Hilux, the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is expected to be the SUV counterpart of the Triton pickup.

Drive suggests that due to the large wheel arch size, the 2026 Pajero Sport is likely to retain the current body design but will be underpinned by a new platform, similar to the recently unveiled Mitsubishi Triton. However, there is still a possibility that Mitsubishi is developing a new body design for the SUV, but it’s not ready for road testing yet.

Drive also confirms that the new Mitsubishi Pajero Sport will be launched in late 2025 or early 2026. Australian Mitsubishi dealers are expected to start showcasing the new Pajero Sport from early 2026.

While engine specifications have not been disclosed, it is likely that the next-generation Mitsubishi Pajero Sport will feature a 4-cylinder 2.4L diesel engine with an output of 201 horsepower and 430 Nm of torque, paired with a 4WD system, similar to the Triton pickup.

The current-generation Mitsubishi Pajero Sport has dimensions of 4,825 mm in length, 1,815 mm in width, 1,835 mm in height, and a wheelbase of 2,800 mm. It is powered by a 2.4L MIVEC diesel engine that delivers 181 horsepower and 430 Nm of torque.

In Vietnam, the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is offered in two variants, with either rear-wheel drive or full-time 4WD. The SUV is priced at 1.13 billion VND and 1.365 billion VND, respectively. Its competitors in the market include the Ford Everest (1.099-1.545 billion VND), Hyundai Santa Fe (979 million – 1.269 billion VND), Toyota Fortuner (1.055-1.35 billion VND), Mazda CX-8 (949 million – 1.129 billion VND), Kia Sorento (964 million – 1.189 billion VND), and the recently launched GAC GS8, priced at 1.269-1.369 billion VND.
