In September 2024, Vietnam’s automotive market witnessed a boost in sales for most car models. However, there were a few models that went against this positive trend, and the Toyota Wigo is a notable example.

Table of A-class car sales in September 2024 (unit: cars)
Hyundai Grand i10: 561 cars
In September, the Hyundai Grand i10 witnessed significant growth with an 81% increase in sales, reaching 561 units. This allowed the South Korean model to maintain its best-selling position in the A-segment. The support policy for 50% of the registration fee for domestically produced and assembled cars, effective from September 1, 2024, contributed to this success.
Hyundai Grand i10
The A-class model received an upgraded version in June 2024 and now offers six variants with prices ranging from VND 360 to 455 million. Customers can choose between the sedan and hatchback styles, as before.
The upgraded Hyundai Grand i10 features subtle design changes and improved equipment. Notable features include LED daytime running lights, 15-inch alloy wheels, LED taillights, power-adjustable side mirrors with turn signals, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a dedicated Vietnamese navigation system, push-button start, and smart key entry.
Under the hood, the Hyundai Grand i10 is powered by a 1.2L Kappa MPi gasoline engine that produces 83 horsepower and 114 Nm of torque. The engine is paired with either a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission.
Toyota Wigo: 183 cars
The Toyota Wigo was the second best-selling model in the segment for September 2024, with 183 units sold. However, this represented an 8.5% decrease in sales compared to the previous month, making it the only A-class model to experience a sales decline.
Toyota Wigo
Unlike the Hyundai Grand i10, the Toyota Wigo is imported from Indonesia and therefore does not benefit from the government’s 50% registration fee reduction. This puts the Japanese model at a disadvantage compared to its domestically produced rivals.
The Toyota Wigo is offered in two variants in Vietnam, with prices ranging from VND 360 to 405 million. Despite its competitive pricing, the Wigo matches its competitors in terms of equipment, featuring LED headlights, power-adjustable side mirrors, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and a four-speaker audio system. Additionally, it boasts advanced safety features rarely seen in this segment, such as the Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA) systems.
The Toyota Wigo is powered by a new 1.2L gasoline engine paired with either a 5-speed manual or a Dual-CVT automatic transmission. This engine delivers 87 horsepower and 113 Nm of torque.
Kia Morning: 62 cars
Similar to its sister model, the Hyundai Grand i10, the Kia Morning experienced improved sales in September, with 62 units sold, representing a 63.1% growth rate. However, the Kia Morning’s sales figures remain modest, placing it at the bottom of the segment.
Kia Morning
The Kia Morning is available in five variants in Vietnam, with prices ranging from VND 349 to 424 million. Like the Hyundai Grand i10, it qualifies for the government’s 50% registration fee support program, which ran from September 1 to November 30, 2024. Despite this advantage, the Kia Morning’s sales figures pale in comparison to the Grand i10.
While the Kia Morning offers a more affordable price tag than its competitors, it lags in terms of design and equipment. It lacks LED headlights and cruise control, which are available on the other two models. Instead, it comes with features such as LED daytime running lights, LED taillights, power-adjustable side mirrors with turn signals, 14- to 15-inch wheels, an analog instrument cluster with a multi-information display, leather seats, an 8-inch infotainment screen, a six-speaker audio system, and automatic climate control.
Under the hood, the Kia Morning is powered by a 1.25L Kappa gasoline engine that produces 83 horsepower and 120 Nm of torque. It is paired with either a 4-speed automatic or 5-speed manual transmission.
