Electric Vehicles Steal the Show at VMS 2024
The spotlight was on electric vehicles at the center of the exhibition halls, with the presence of pure electric models such as the Toyota FT-3e, MG Cyberster, and the BYD lineup, showcasing the dominant “green” trend of this year’s VMS.
BYD, a pure electric car brand, showcased two of its most anticipated models, the YangWang U8 and Denza N9, in the most prominent positions at their booth. The new energy SUV, YangWang U8, features a robust and sleek design while exuding luxury and conveying a message of technological breakthrough and all-terrain capability. Skoda, a European brand, also showcased its electric SUV, the Skoda Enyaq. This was the first time the model was introduced to Vietnamese consumers before its official launch in 2025.
Following tradition at VMS events, Toyota presented at least one new and captivating concept model. At VMS 2024, the center of their booth was occupied by the electric concept car, Toyota FT-3e. This was one of the rare concept cars exhibited at this year’s show.
First unveiled at the Japan Mobility Show 2023, the FT-3e represents Toyota’s vision of the future of electric vehicles and their strategy for development in this segment.
Similar to VMS 2022, MG also showcased its most attractive electric products, including the MG4 and the limited-edition (only 100 units) electric supercar, MG Cyberster.
Electric motorcycles were another important highlight of VMS 2024. Honda showcased two urban electric motorcycle models, the CUV e: and ICON e:. Both of these electric motorcycles are designed for practicality and target students, the generation that will shoulder the mission of facing climate change challenges and achieving carbon neutrality.

Yamaha, of course, also brought its unique green products, including the Motoroid and Elove concept duo. These motorcycles can self-identify their owners and have self-transforming, self-driving, and self-balancing capabilities without the need for throttle operation. These models not only served as displays but also represented Yamaha’s vision and goals for a modern future with new energy technology and artificial intelligence.

Hybrid Vehicles Garner Significant Attention
In addition to electric vehicles, participating brands at VMS 2024 also showcased other types of green engines, such as hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles. These vehicles are popular among consumers due to their practicality, accessibility, and minimal impact on driving habits.
One notable example is the affordable MPV, Suzuki XL7, which features a new hybrid engine technology. This model was launched in the Vietnamese market in late August 2024, offering two versions with prices ranging from VND 599.9 to 607.9 million.
Toyota gained significant attention at this year’s exhibition by officially introducing the new generation of the “national” sedan, Toyota Camry, with hybrid engine technology. The car is available in the Vietnamese market in three versions, including two hybrid and one gasoline engine option. Compared to its predecessor, the new Camry offers significant upgrades and changes while remaining accessible in terms of pricing.

At Honda’s booth, the highlight was the Honda Civic facelift, a C-segment sedan. This was the first time the upgraded version of this model was introduced to the entire country. The Civic facelift at VMS 2024 featured two reference versions: the standard RS with a combustion engine and the RS e:HEV hybrid. The most significant difference in the 2024 Civic is the introduction of a hybrid engine option in Vietnam. The Civic e:HEV RS version is equipped with a 2.0L gasoline engine combined with two electric motors, delivering a maximum output of 200 horsepower and 315Nm of torque. It offers three driving modes (electric, hybrid, and gasoline) along with regenerative braking. Its average fuel consumption is an impressive 4.56 liters/100km for mixed driving conditions.
