In a recent development, leading battery manufacturer CATL has unveiled its latest technology for plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), dubbed the Freevoy Super Hybrid Battery.
This technology significantly enhances the all-electric range of vehicles, pushing it beyond 400 kilometers, marking a substantial leap from the average of 50 to 100 kilometers.
The all-electric range of these hybrid vehicles equipped with Freevoy Super Hybrid Battery technology can now rival that of pure electric vehicles such as the MG4 Excite, GWM Ora Extended Range, and Kia EV6 GT.
According to CATL, this breakthrough technology stems from a new battery formula that combines lithium-ion and sodium-ion to improve performance at low temperatures.
The Freevoy technology employs a surface modification method for the cathode material, coupled with a new high-pressure electrolyte formula, resulting in a nano-protective layer. Integrating highly active particles into the cathode material optimizes lithium-ion transport within the material.
Not only does this new battery type extend the range of vehicles, but it also supports ultra-fast 4C charging. A mere 10-minute charge enables users to travel an additional 280 kilometers.
As per plans, this cutting-edge battery technology will be featured in 30 hybrid models from Chinese brands such as Chery, GAC, and Geely, starting next year.
