The Mazda EZ-6, a mid-size sedan, made its debut in the Chinese market at the Beijing Auto Show 2024 earlier this year. It is only now that Mazda has released the price of this model, which is set to replace the Mazda6.

In the Chinese market, the Mazda EZ-6 is offered in two variants: a fully electric (EV) version and a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version with a gasoline engine. The EV model has three trim levels, while the PHEV version offers four. Prices for the Mazda EZ-6 range from 139,800 to 179,800 Chinese yuan (approximately $20,000 to $25,700).

The Mazda EZ-6 is offered in both EV and PHEV variants.

The EZ-6 is a collaboration between Mazda and its Chinese partner, Changan. It is built on Changan’s EPA platform, which is versatile enough to accommodate both pure electric vehicles and traditional internal combustion engine cars. This same platform also underpins the Changan Deepal SL03, a China-exclusive model.

As the successor to the discontinued Mazda6 in China, the Mazda EZ-6 has larger dimensions than its predecessor. It measures 4,921 mm in length, 1,890 mm in width, and 1,485 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,900 mm. Compared to the Mazda6, the EZ-6 is 56 mm longer, 50 mm wider, 35 mm taller, and has a 70 mm longer wheelbase.

Despite sharing a platform with the Changan Deepal SL03, the EZ-6 features distinct Mazda design elements. The EV version sports a closed-off grille with chrome accents and 19-inch aerodynamic wheels with a two-tone finish. On the other hand, the PHEV version has a conventional grille with a multi-point pattern and 19-inch dual-five-spoke wheels.

Additionally, the D-segment sedan features a two-tier lighting system, with sharp L-shaped LED daytime running lights on top and smaller headlights below. It also includes a LED light bar that surrounds the grille, a logo with hidden LEDs, two vertical air intakes on the front bumper, hidden door handles, crescent-shaped taillights that connect on the trunk lid, and a small spoiler.

The interior of the Mazda EZ-6 offers a spacious 5-seat layout with a minimalist and elegant design. It features Nappa leather and suede upholstery, gravity-reducing front seats, heated and cooled front seats, a sporty flat-bottom steering wheel, auto-dimming rearview mirror, a 50-inch AR-HUD, a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14.6-inch infotainment screen that controls most vehicle functions, a 14-speaker Sony audio system, wireless phone charging, 64-color ambient lighting, and a panoramic sunroof.

Powering the Mazda EZ-6 EV is an electric motor that delivers a maximum output of 190 kW (approximately 254 horsepower). This motor is paired with either a 56.1 kWh or 68.8 kWh battery, offering an estimated range of 480 kilometers and 600 kilometers, respectively, on the CLTC cycle. The top speed of the EV variant is 170 km/h.

On the other hand, the Mazda EZ-6 PHEV combines a 160 kW (214 hp) electric motor with a 1.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine that produces 70 kW (93 hp). Thanks to its LFP battery, the PHEV model can travel between 130 and 200 kilometers on electric power alone, depending on the trim level. The total range, when combined with the gasoline engine, is an impressive 1,301 kilometers.

The Mazda EZ-6 offers the option of pure electric or hybrid power.

Following its launch in China, the Mazda EZ-6 will be introduced in other international markets. With the Mazda6 being discontinued in many regions, the EZ-6 is poised to take its place as a worthy successor.
