At the end of March 2024, Mazda officially unveiled a mildly updated version of their BT-50 pickup truck in the Thai market. After more than half a year, Mazda has now announced plans to introduce a new version of this model in Australia.

According to the plan, on October 18, 2024, the 2025 Mazda BT-50 will be officially introduced to the global market. Prior to this, Mazda released the first “teaser” image of this pickup truck.

The first image of the 2025 Mazda BT-50 isn’t very clear. From what we can see, the pickup truck features a new headlight cluster with two L-shaped LED daytime running light strips on each side, similar to the Mazda CX-5, CX-50, and CX-8.

Alongside is a large chrome-accented grille with the Mazda logo. In fact, this could be the Mazda model with the largest logo to date.

Not much information is currently available about this model. Mazda has only confirmed that the new BT-50 will undergo comprehensive improvements inside and out. Additionally, the vehicle will be equipped with an upgraded Human Machine Interface (HMI), safety features, and enhanced comfort features.

It’s likely that the 2025 Mazda BT-50 will continue to use the previous model’s engine. In its current iteration, this pickup truck shares an engine with the Isuzu D-Max.

In the Australian market, the Mazda BT-50 is powered by a 3.0L turbocharged diesel engine that produces 190 horsepower and 450 Nm of torque. Meanwhile, in other markets, the vehicle offers an additional engine option: a 1.9L turbocharged diesel engine that generates 150 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque.

The Mazda BT-50’s engine is paired with a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission. The vehicle is offered with either rear-wheel drive (RWD) or four-wheel drive (4WD), depending on the variant.

In March 2024, Isuzu launched a new mild hybrid version of its D-Max pickup truck. Therefore, it wouldn’t be surprising if the 2025 Mazda BT-50 is also equipped with this mild hybrid powertrain, including the same 1.9L 4-cylinder turbocharged Ddi Blue Power diesel engine, paired with a small electric motor and a 48V electrical system.

After Australia, the new Mazda BT-50 is expected to be launched in other markets, including Southeast Asia. It’s currently unclear whether this pickup truck will return to the Vietnamese market.

Since May 2024, the BT-50 has quietly disappeared from Mazda Vietnam’s product lineup. As of now, Mazda has not provided an explanation for discontinuing sales of this pickup truck in Vietnam. Some speculate that the model was discontinued due to underwhelming sales performance, while others hope that this is only a temporary hiatus until the new BT-50 arrives.
