British Police Bust International Super Car Trafficking Ring After a 7-Year Investigation
In a recent operation, British police successfully dismantled a sophisticated cross-border super car trafficking ring, marking the end of a 7-year-long investigation.
The cars involved in this illicit trade included prestigious brands such as Porsche, Lamborghini, and Mercedes. In total, 25 of these luxury vehicles were estimated to be worth £6.5 million (over 200 billion VND).
Prior to this bust, the National Vehicle Crime Intelligence Service (NaVCIS) had discovered four Mercedes cars in a container at Southampton Port, raising suspicions. This led to a broader investigation that ultimately brought down the entire operation.
According to police intelligence, the ring was orchestrated by a Thai businessman, Intarasak Techaterasiri, who hired four British accomplices to facilitate the transportation and smuggling of the vehicles into Thailand.
Between 2016 and 2017, the group purchased these supercars on finance from dealerships in the UK and then exported them to Thailand.
It is worth noting that the kingpin of this smuggling operation, Intarasak Techaterasiri, was arrested in 2022 and is currently awaiting trial.
All of the confiscated supercars are being stored in a warehouse in Eastleigh, Hampshire, awaiting their return to their rightful owners after 7 years of being stranded in Thailand.
Notably, among the stolen vehicles was a Lamborghini Huracan Spyder valued at £222,000 (approximately 7.3 billion VND). This particular car was rented from a supercar rental company by the criminals.
