The past few months have seen a string of Chinese automotive brands launch new vehicles in the Vietnamese market, including Wuling, Haima, GAC, and Lynk & Co. Now, in November, another Chinese car manufacturer, Dongfeng, is entering the passenger car segment in Vietnam.

Dongfeng is no stranger to the Vietnamese market and is even dubbed the “boss” of commercial vehicles in the country. After dominating the commercial vehicle sector, Dongfeng now sets its sights on expanding into the passenger car market.

According to their official website, Dongfeng will be officially entering the passenger car market in Vietnam with an event held on November 12, where they will be launching a total of four models: Huge, Mage, E70, and Box. Among these, the Dongfeng E70 and Box are electric vehicles, while the other two are gasoline and hybrid cars.

The commercial vehicle giant, Dongfeng, introduces four new passenger car models in Vietnam this month.

Dongfeng will be opening its first 4S showroom in Hanoi this November and is currently seeking dealership partners nationwide.

This is not the first time Dongfeng has introduced its passenger cars to the Vietnamese market. Back in 2017, during the VIMS 2017 exhibition, Dongfeng showcased the Joyear S50 and Joyear X5 models to Vietnamese customers. However, their initial attempt did not yield success due to unappealing products and local consumers’ biases towards Chinese automobiles.

Now, with a clear focus on electric and hybrid vehicles to catch up with global trends, Dongfeng is making a comeback in the Vietnamese passenger car market.

Dongfeng is a Chinese state-owned automobile manufacturer headquartered in Wuhan, Hubei province. Established in 1969, Dongfeng is one of the four largest state-owned car manufacturers in China, alongside SAIC Motor, Changan Automobile, and FAW Group.

Dongfeng has established sub-brands such as Fengdu, Voyah, Aeolus, and Forthing. Additionally, they have joint ventures with foreign carmakers such as Honda, Nissan, Peugeot, and Citroen.
