VinFast, a leading Vietnamese electric vehicle manufacturer, has taken a significant step towards promoting green transportation in Mexico by signing a strategic partnership agreement with the Durango Drivers’ and Workers’ Union. The agreement focuses on the potential purchase of 3,000 VF 5 electric vehicles and 300 electric buses for operation in Mexico, showcasing VinFast’s commitment to environmental sustainability and its ability to cater to diverse market demands.

This partnership highlights the growing global interest in VinFast’s electric vehicles and their adaptability to different markets. The VF 5 compact e-SUV, known for its economic efficiency, stable performance, and smart technology, is an ideal choice for both personal and taxi services. Additionally, VinFast’s electric bus offerings are designed with a range of capacities and options, ensuring safety and incorporating advanced technologies.

As per the agreement, negotiations will take place for the sale of VF 5 electric vehicles and electric buses to the Durango Drivers’ Union, a member of the Mexican Workers’ Federation (CTM). These vehicles will serve public passenger transport in the city of Durango, replacing the current gasoline-powered fleet.

Furthermore, VinFast, in collaboration with V-Green and CTM, will undertake research, establishment, installation, and operation of charging infrastructure for electric cars and buses in Durango. This joint effort will result in a convenient and extensive charging network, catering to the needs of both personal and public transportation.

The cooperation between VinFast and the Durango Drivers’ and Workers’ Union will contribute to the greening of transportation in Durango and Mexico as a whole. By replacing gasoline-powered vehicles with electric alternatives, there will be a significant reduction in CO2 emissions. Additionally, the union will benefit from lower operating costs, and the local community will gain new employment opportunities through the installation and operation of charging stations.

As a subsidiary of Vingroup, Vietnam’s leading private enterprise, VinFast offers a comprehensive range of electric vehicles, including cars, buses, motorcycles, and electric bikes. Their products are widely used by transportation companies across Vietnam, playing a pivotal role in familiarizing the public with electric vehicles and driving the country’s green transportation movement.

“We are impressed by the state of Durango and CTM’s strong commitment to green transformation. This shared vision of a sustainable future aligns perfectly with VinFast’s core values. With our high-quality electric vehicles and our affiliates’ expertise in taxi operations and charging infrastructure, we are confident in our ability to support Durango in realizing their green ambitions,” said Pham Thuy Linh, VinFast’s Deputy CEO of Global Markets.

Representing the Durango Drivers’ and Workers’ Union, Juan Erik Mercado Rangel, on behalf of Ricardo Fidel Pacheco Rodríguez, the General Secretary, and Juan Pedro Mercado Gallegos, the Deputy General Secretary, expressed their enthusiasm for the partnership: “We are thrilled to collaborate with VinFast, a global electric vehicle brand. VinFast’s electric vehicles, green mobility ecosystem, and their grand vision and cooperative spirit have truly impressed CTM. We believe that this collaboration will not only enhance the quality of our transportation services but also position us at the forefront of the global trend towards sustainable mobility.”

While the electric vehicle market in Mexico is still in its early stages, it is experiencing rapid growth. The country holds significant potential for electric vehicles, and the government is considering incentives to further boost this sector’s development.

VinFast, as a global electric vehicle brand, has been at the forefront of driving green transportation initiatives worldwide. Recently, they achieved a significant milestone by becoming the leading electric car brand in Vietnam in September 2024 and expanding their presence in the US, Canada, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Indonesia, and the Philippines.
