According to CarnewsChina, on September 16, Great Wall Motors (GWM) signed a cooperation agreement with Thành An Joint Stock Company to produce GWM-branded vehicles, including the Tank and Haval models, for the Vietnamese market.

Prior to this, GWM had been focusing on establishing factories in markets such as Thailand, Mexico, Malaysia, and most recently, Indonesia. In communications with local media, GWM shared that the project to produce GWM-branded vehicles in Vietnam is expected to commence in late 2025.

GWM first entered the Vietnamese market in August 2023 with the Haval brand. Currently, the Haval H6 is the company’s only offering, but it has not achieved the expected success due to its relatively high price compared to competitors. The H6 is currently priced at 986 million VND.

According to various sources, GWM and Thành An will introduce the Jolion to Vietnam this year to compete in the B-segment SUV market. However, details about the pricing and launch timing have not yet been disclosed.

With this development, GWM joins the list of Chinese automakers planning to produce vehicles in Vietnam. Previously, BYD hinted at constructing a factory in Phu Tho province, but the plan did not materialize. Chery’s subsidiaries, Omoda and Jaecoo, have also joined hands with Geleximco to build a factory in Thai Binh. Tasco, with its focus on the automotive industry, is also likely to soon have a factory producing Geely-owned brands such as Lynk&Co and Zeekr in Vietnam.
