Performance and Porsche go hand in hand, so it’s no surprise that some models feature center-lock wheels. However, there’s a serious issue with the fastening system, and this could cause the wheels to “come off.”

Wheels and detachment are two words you never want to hear together, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says the problem affects 1,851 vehicles. These include the 2024 911, 718 Spyder RS, and 718 Cayman GT4 RS.

Porsche’s Center-Lock Wheels May Be a Thing of the Past

The safety recall report states that the affected vehicles have a center-lock wheel system that was “manufactured out of specification and may fracture.” This is a serious safety issue as the driver could lose control and cause an accident.

While the recall doesn’t detail specifics, Porsche has noticed “a number of incidents involving center-lock failures” between September and October of this year. The company is still investigating, but it appears that all the issues can be traced back to a batch of faulty bolts.

Given the severity of the issue, Porsche has decided to initiate a recall and ask owners to stop driving their vehicles. Dealers will inspect the center-lock wheel assembly and replace any incorrectly manufactured parts. Of course, that’s a little harder when you can’t drive the car to the inspection.
