The Wuling Bingo comes equipped with a GB/T fast-charging port, which is popular in China but incompatible with public charging systems in Vietnam without an adapter.
On November 2nd, TMT Motor officially launched the electric vehicle model Wuling Bingo in the Vietnamese market. The car is distributed in 4 versions, with a starting price of VND 349 million and a maximum price of VND 569 million.
For now, TMT Motors is only selling the Bingo 333 km and Bingo 410 km versions, respectively priced at VND 399 million and VND 469 million. The other two versions are expected to go on sale in early 2025.
The price of the Bingo is considered quite high compared to its configuration and equipment, especially when compared to the VinFast VF 5 – a model that currently dominates the small electric CUV market segment. However, the biggest obstacle for Wuling Bingo in reaching Vietnamese customers lies in the charging station infrastructure.
Currently, public charging stations in Vietnam, including the V-Green system of VinFast, use the CCS2 charging standard similar to the European market. In contrast, the Bingo is equipped with a GB/T fast-charging port only found in the Chinese domestic market.
Thus, customers who purchase the Wuling Bingo in Vietnam can only charge their vehicles using the dedicated charger for Wuling cars and cannot use other chargers available in the market. Moreover, the fast-charging function of this model is almost useless in Vietnam.
If Bingo owners wish to utilize public charging stations, they need to acquire an additional CCS2-to-GB/T converter, which is quite expensive, ranging from 15 to 30 million VND. However, the origin, quality, and compatibility of these products are questionable, so buyers should exercise caution before purchasing them.
It remains unclear whether the Wuling Bingo models that will eventually reach Vietnamese customers will have any changes in the charging port. If it still uses the GB/T port, the Wuling Bingo will struggle to compete with other vehicles in the Vietnamese market and is likely to continue to be among the least-sold cars, similar to its predecessor, the Mini EV.
