Chery Confirms Vietnam as a Key Link in its Global Manufacturing Chain

Chery Automobile has announced that Vietnam will be a key part of its global manufacturing strategy, with the country set to host one of its upcoming assembly plants. The plant, a joint venture between Chery and Geleximco, will be located in the Thai Binh province.

The upcoming facility will be constructed in the Hung Phu Industrial Park, Tien Hai, Thai Binh, with a total investment value of nearly VND 2,000 billion. It is expected to break ground in 2025 and will focus on producing OMODA and JAECOO vehicles.

Chery’s decision to establish a production base in Vietnam underscores the country’s growing importance in the Southeast Asian automotive market. The Vietnam plant, along with another planned facility in Malaysia, will be part of Chery’s global network of manufacturing plants, which includes multiple bases in China, Brazil, Latin America, and Turkey.

Chery’s home base in Qingdao, China, boasts a highly automated assembly process with a 99.6% automation rate and real-time quality monitoring systems. The company’s new energy plant in Wuhu ensures safe and reliable electrical systems, while its other plants in Kaifeng, Henan, Yixin, and Sichuan, form a robust production network that guarantees supply and product availability.

Earlier in April, Chery and Geleximco announced their joint venture with a planned investment of over $800 million. The plant is expected to have an annual capacity of 200,000 vehicles and will enter its first phase of completion in Q1 2026.

Prior to the local assembly plant’s operation, Chery plans to import its Omoda and Jaecoo models into Vietnam. The Omoda C5 and Jaecoo J7 PHEV are slated for launch in Q4 of this year, marking Chery’s official entry into the Vietnamese market.

The Omoda C5 is a B-segment SUV powered by a 1.5L turbo engine that produces 145 horsepower and 210 Nm of torque. The Jaecoo J7 PHEV, on the other hand, is a C-segment SUV that combines an electric motor with a 1.5L turbocharged gasoline engine, resulting in an impressive 347 horsepower and 525 Nm of torque.

Chery is one of the first Chinese automotive brands to explore the Vietnamese market, but its cautious approach has resulted in delayed launches, allowing some of its compatriots to gain a head start.
