The Mercedes-Benz CLA is the first model in the upcoming Mercedes-Benz compact car lineup, expected to launch in late 2025.
Recently, the Mercedes-Benz CLA electric car prototype broke the record for the longest continuous journey.
Mercedes-Benz put two CLA EV prototypes through their paces on the famous Nardo high-speed test track in southern Italy to validate their range and energy efficiency claims.
Surprisingly, this electric sedan completed an astonishing 3,716 km in 24 hours, surpassing the previous record of 3,425 km set by the Porsche Taycan in 2019.
The record-breaking Mercedes-Benz CLA EV is a rear-wheel-drive version. It’s equipped with a single electric motor that produces 268 horsepower and is paired with a two-speed transmission.
The prototype’s impressive performance is attributed to its 800V technology and 320kW maximum charging power. During the test, the Mercedes-Benz CLA EV only needed to stop for charging 40 times.
It takes just 10 minutes to charge the vehicle from 10% to 50%, providing an additional 300 km of range. The total charging time during this test was 6 hours and 40 minutes. The average speed, including charging stops, was 155 km/h, and the maximum speed reached was 209 km/h.
This test vehicle is said to be very close to the upcoming production model. Six drivers and two CLA EVs participated in this challenge, with each driver taking the wheel for eight hours. Additionally, the Mercedes-Benz engineering team continuously monitored weather conditions and adjusted the charging strategy accordingly.
