Isuzu has unveiled a new mild-hybrid powertrain option for its mu-X and D-Max models, offering a more efficient and powerful alternative to its current engine lineup.

The hybrid system, coded RZ4F, features a 2.2L diesel engine that produces 161 horsepower and an impressive 400 Nm of torque, aided by an electric motor. This setup is enhanced by an upgraded turbocharger, boosting engine performance and refinement.

Alongside this, Isuzu has introduced a new 8-speed automatic transmission for both models, improving efficiency and driving dynamics. According to the official website, the new hybrid system delivers 56% more torque during acceleration and is 10% more fuel-efficient than its pure diesel counterpart.

Positioned between the current 1.9L and 3.0L diesel engine options, the hybrid system offers a compelling middle ground. The 1.9L diesel engine produces 148 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque, while the 3.0L diesel engine is rated at 188 horsepower and 450 Nm of torque.

The electrified D-Max and MU-X will go on sale in Thailand on November 28, with the D-Max hybrid priced between $17,200 and $27,000, and the MU-X starting at $34,435.

Isuzu plans to roll out the hybrid variants in other markets soon, as part of its multi-directional product development strategy. This strategy includes the development of new technologies for internal combustion engines, electric vehicles, and alternative energy vehicles, offering a diverse range of options for global customers. Isuzu is also set to launch its first all-electric vehicle, the D-Max electric pickup, in 2025, marking a significant step towards electrification.
